Hi all! I was just going through some old notebooks and came across a lot of work from writing groups I used to run in Detroit and in Madrid. I forgot how much I loved it...so...I've decided to start up again.
Here's how it works:
Women only. English-writing only. Creativity seekers, closet journalers, bar napkin poets, even published writers.
We meet once a week and write together. Sometimes with topics like, um...red things, or first kiss, or favorite smells.
We do exercises in things like "show don't tell," oulipo-style creativity such as..writing without using the letter "e" for example, freewriting...
Alot of the ideas I use are drawn from the book "Writing Down the Bones" by Natalie Goldberg, if you are familiar with it.
The actual goal of the group is to produce work...to write, to etch out on paper what's banging around up in the cerebrum.
From there we can always work on refining, editing, etc...but the idea is to produce. To write with fury and commitment, ink flying, ideas flowing.
I am thinking of Sunday evenings as the get together time, but am open to other ideas. I am also thinking of starting in December.
Let me know if you are interested with an email to candyleelaballe@yahoo.com
cheers...

Anyway...there are no tests, I just wanted it to be clear that this is no place for practicing English. Also we all need to be writing in the same language as there will be times for feedback and critique, and I know I for one can't tell the poignancy of a metaphor in Spanish...i can and do and am very good at...luxuriating in English words though...and the folks that have contacted me so far with interest seem to feel the same way.
Basically, the group is a place for inducing creativity, and creating work.
So, if you like to write, and do so in English, send me an email and I'll add you to the list.
Right now the potential time and day is Sunday at 7pm, though I am open to suggestions for a weekday, around 8ish.
Cheers, Candy

Hey, just to publicly broadcast the details...we will be having the WWG on Wednesdays at 19:30. We are still thinking of a cafe to meet in. I am leaning towards CAfe Comercial, but am open to suggestions. We will probably start the week of the 13th of December because of the upcoming puente. Julie Bean I will add you to the mailing list: so far we are 7. candela
