Hey guys, I DID do a search on this on the boards, but didn't find the answer. If I get a tarifa plana with telefonica, it says something like this: "Acceso ilimitado a Internet a un único número de nodo de destino de Telefónica Net" and this "Combine Internet las 24 horas del día y tarifa plana de llamadas. Sólo 22 euros/mes" ... Does that mean that I ONLY pay the montly fee for this product (i.e. being able to use their internet) and it includes all of my online time? Or will I also pay a per-minute fee to the phone service for dialing up through my land line?
eeker

hey binkxy.

moved this to the media forum where all internet, phone, etc... questions go.

please link to the page that you saw this offer on so we can be sure which of the zillion offers it is.

in general, no, you do not have to pay online minutes. the "tarifa plana" means "flat rate" and hence is one flat rate for your internet and phone calls within spain.

there are a ton of companies here, all offer similar packages that range from dialups to adsl at diff. speeds.

from what you put above however, it looks like a dialup eeker nutz

i do NOT recommend a dialup. slowness will SO frustrate you.

at any rate, you will also have to pay the landline installation (120 euros?) and monthly maintenance fee which is another 15.97 euros a month last i looked. you can also lower that fee by signing up for the landline maintenance with another company that offers it for less.

again, if you provide the link to that page we can help more.

saludos,
jer...

Hiya,

Sorry, thought I did post it in the correct place. If you go here http://www.telefonica.es/internet/tarifaplana.shtml and click on any of the Tarifa Planas or the Duo, you'll see what I'm talking about. Each of those pop up in a little box, so I couldn't put in the direct link.

I know dial-up is terrible, but I have been reading the nightmares everyone posted about having it set-up. I spoke with the woman I am renting my apartment from, and she will keep the phone line and transfer it to my name. So I guess I have one good thing in that I already have the land line and won't have to pay the alta. The problem with all the ADSL deals out there is that they are asking for one-year contracts and I only know for sure I'll be there until December (or whenever the gov't gets around to giving me my work permit). Telefonica is the most expensive, but doesn't ask for "permanencia". The girl did have Telefonica ADSL but canceled it, so I'd have to do the alta again. And I can barely deal with computer stuff in English. I'd be lost trying to get it done there...

Humm... just exploring my options.

hey binkx.

1 year contract?
who is asking for that?

years ago yes, they made you stay for a year but with the cut throat competition to get clients these days, i do not know of any adsl providers that lock you into a min. contract anymore.

please link to the site you saw it on.

i have 2 adsl lines with ya.com and no permanencia.

binkxy.

tele2 is probably the only one that requires a year.

their prices are much lower than telefónica since they waive the line maintenance fee of 16 euros per month so they have to assure you will be with them a while to make it worth their while.

hey jer, got an update for ya (and all the rest!) - the girl i may rent an apartment from called telefonica to ask about "permanencia" and they certainly do require now that you be there one year. she also confirmed with ya.com and they require you to pay the whole year if you try to break the contract early. and we know tele2 does as well.

gosh... do you wanna check to confirm? or do you know something different?

yep, looks like there is not joy in adslville.

i double checked and they have changed their policy, now it is 1 year min. indeedy.

even says it at http://acceso.ya.com/ADSLllamadas/1mbvoz/ .

guess they were tired of people changing back and forth between providers.
