Maybe you can help me... As some of you know, I worked in TV in my previous life in the States, and as it turns out...my previous life has followed me here to Spain.
I have been approached by my former employer to research the possibility of producing a TV program here in Madrid which will be aired in the States (and possibly in Madrid). I dont want to go into detail here about the production as it is only a possibility. However, in order to do my research, I am looking for contacts in the following areas:
School district of Madrid (preferably Madrid Capital but will consider others)
Travel Industry (airlines/hotels/restaurants)
Tourism Offices
Television Industry
If you work in any of these areas, or have contacts in these areas, please email me or send me a private message identifying the area that you work in and I will get in touch with you.
For those of you whose curiosity I have aroused, but dont have info to offer, dont worry. Given that this project works out, I will be posting more about it in the future.
I know someone that worked in Antena3 Programming for about 7 years - she was, in part, responsible for looking for American TV programs to air in Spain. I am not 100% sure of what she did but it was in that vain.
Is that what you are looking for? If so, let me know how she can contact you and I'll send her a note.

A friend of mine has a friend who works at TV helping with production of series, movies and all that. They are now working on a new serie for Telecinco. I could ask this friend to see if she can give you some useful info and advice if you want. Just let me know if you are interested, Chica.
Un saludo

You are very welcome, chica, but that was nothing :b: :ks: It is a pleasure to be helpful. I dont know to what extent what I can do for you will be helpful, though; but well try
See you next week.

Yes! Yes! That would be great! I am in Philadelphia right now...will get in touch with you as soon as I get back!
I have a meeting today (3pm EST...which is 9pm Madrid time) and will have a clearer idea about the whole project so we can talk inteligibly next week!!
Have fun at volleyball! I will think of you all as I am muching down an authentic Philadelphia cheese steak.
This sound so terribly exciting! Unlike my boring bank job!
Anyway, two ex-employees from my job have connections in TV. One is the father of a now pretty famous actor and I think his son is a photographer at a TV station. Another, his wife works on movie production, maybe for Canal Plus.
As for school districts, you were kinda vague. I try to know a lot about schools, as a doting mom. I guess it all depends on what kind of school you need and what for. I have a good relationship with the director of Sam's school. His school is a boys school with a nice campus and kids wearing uniforms. I have other suggestions, perhaps, if you need another type of school.
Enjoy your visit to Philly!
By the way, its "munching" not "muching" Ha! Ha! I guess you've been in Spain too long!
Take care,
Val

Oh, I don't know what you need in the hotels area, but a friend of mine (another ex from my job) owns a major hotel (well her father in law does). So, maybe her husband can help you!
Bye again,
Val

Val -- thanks for the suggestions...I will definitely be in touch with you...
OK...to build more curiosity and give a tad more detail (tell them only what they need to know... )
The program is for public television...so its nothing sexy like Hotel Glamour (or whatever that cheesey show was called). But it is a really cool program promoting cross cultural understanding and tolerance and the elimination of stereotypes, etc...and uses both Spanish and American students as the bearers of these messages.
Regarding schools : I am looking for a direct contact at a public school in Madrid, equivalent to a school principal or teacher responsible for the English/Foreign language department (if such exists). Preference is a school with economically disadvantaged Spanish adolescents who have a relatively high level of English (looking for 6 students...but will do that through the school).
Regarding TV : Many of you have responded to that call and I really appreciate it! I am slowly making my way through the list of contacts provided. TJ Guy, I spoke with Carmen today.
Regarding airlines : Iberia would be ideal. Or SpanAir. I prefer to work with the national airlines, but will consider any as long as we both come out winning.
Regarding Hotel : Val, Ill contact you on that directly. Anyone else with hotel connections?
Whats in it for them? They get advertising time in the form of GSAs (General Service Announcements) in the 4th largest media market in the United States equivalent to their support of the program.
I am operating on a very short timeline so need to nail a few deals like, NOW . If Spain is selected this year (that is determined on how fast I can get in touch with the airlines), the producer will be sent over early 2004 to scout out the scene and the footage will be shot early spring with a late spring broadcast date. So, I am under the gun on this one.
If you have any contacts in any of the above mentioned areas (I think I am ok on the TV end for now) please post here or send me an email. You dont need to negotiate anything... thats all on me!
Thanks guys!
P.S. Anyone know where I can take some VHS tapes to have them converted?
When you talk to Mary Carmen next, she can help you with the VHS conversion....she knows a company in Torrejon de Ardoz that does it but also knows alot of people at Antena 3 Production that might be willing to do it when no one is looking......

Just want to give you a brief update on this project...
I have been in touch with many of you good souls who offered up information and contacts with the bare minimum of details.
I, too, have been working with minimal details. The project will most likely continue, but the timeline has been extended to next year, given that the funding continues.
This year, they have decided to film the program in Ireland, which will give me more time to work out some sketchier details here in Spain.
So....a big thank you to all and I will definitely be in touch with you individually as the project and time progresses!
