Hey all, for those of you...

here in Spain and with a DVD player.
abroad with a multizone DVD player and with someone here who can get hold of "El Pas" newspaper on the weekends.

The paper started a Spanish cinema collection today which will last for the next 6 months.

Every Saturday a new Spanish flick on DVD can be bought with the paper and costs just under 6 Euros. Another flick can also be bought with the Sunday paper and costs only 1.95 Big Grin

There will be 45 movies total, 2 per week and today they are giving away the first movie for free, "La Lengua de las Mariposas".

So, if you are into Spanish movies, this is a great collection to have since the 45 movies will end up costing only about 175 Cool

Saludos,
jer...

Yep! I got my copy today of La Lengua de Las Mariposas! The only disadvantage is that it is only available in Castellano Frowner . I was hoping to be able to use them as a teaching resource. Jer, do you know if the rest of the DVDs will only be in Castellano?

Great deal! Are these fairly current movies? If so, it's a nice way to build up a collection. Spanish newspapers often do these wonderful premiums. I wish our papers did that.

I just saw a spanish film by Pedro Almodovar, La Flor de mi Secreto which was wonderful. But what I liked the most was that it was filmed in Madrid, and I got to see the Plaza, and FNAC, places that are now familiar. The movie was fantastic, and more than anything else was hearing the Castellano. The heroine's mother reminded me so much of my abuela!

Anyway, how does one know if one's DVD is a multinational one, Jer?

Gracias in advance. [yin yang]

Hey Chica, yeah, I saw that the flick was in Spanish only with no English subtitles Frowner I am pretty sure that the entire collection will follow suite.

Yes Booklady, they are all supposed to be recent movies but I will add a post here each time a new one comes out Big Grin

I also enjoyed "La Flor de mi Secreto".

Booklady. for a few more good "home grown" Spanish films that are shot entirely in Madrid, try to get a hold of "La Comunidad" and "El Da de la Bestia" by "Alex de la Iglesia" Cool There are also many more but those 2 come to mind right now.

As for the DVD being "multizone", the documentation that came with it should tell you. I was in the "fnac" the other day here and of the 20+ DVD players they offer, only 1 was multizone compatible and it did not even come multizone, the salesman said you had to have a technician configure it for multizone after buying it.

Not sure if multizone DVD players are more common in the States but here they are not easy to find.

Saludos,
jer...

Hey Chica, hold the boat! If you did not buy today's movie with El Pas, don't!!!

It was "Abre los Ojos" by Amenabar and they have it (along with some other good Spanish flicks) on sale at the Corte Ingls fpr 5.95 Big Grin

Difference is, the ones at the Corte Ingls have subtiteles in English (and some in French and Italian too).

I double checked the first movie from last Sunday (La Lengua de las Mariposas) and it definitely has no subtitles available Frowner

I picked up "Abre los Ojos" and "El Da de la Bestia" at Corte today and they are subtitles.

They also had "Los Amantes del Crculo Polar", "Secretos del Corazn" and quite a few more that El Pas will surely put out in their collection.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. Also picked up the first season of C.S.I. on DVD, can't wait to finally hear their voices in English Cool

Hey jer --- thanks for the heads up on the DVD. I was looking forward all week to buying it today, and then we got so busy at our "local" that I forgot to pick up the paper. I was going to go to the kiosko first thing tomorrow AM to see if they had any leftovers...so glad you gave me the warning. I will head over to the Corte on Monday. Which one did you go to? Ill probably go to the one on Princesa.

Im still planning on picking up the paper and DVD tomorrow.. Smiler

Hey all, just thought Id revive this thread from last year since yesterday was El Pass lanzamiento of its new cinema collection.

Last years collection featured older Spanish films, this years collection features 42 newer films. Yesterdays giveaway with purchase of El Pas was Luca y El Sexo.

Some of the well known most recent movies included in this promotion are Los Otros, Los Lunes Al Sol, El Otro Lado de la Cama, Juana La Loca and Bodas de Sangre just to mention a few. This is the complete list of titles.

I wont be collecting the entire series this time around seeing as I havent finished watching all of last years pics. However, there are a few that I will be sure to purchase. Yesterdays El Pas is completely sold out. There is no chance of getting a back order of the paper or the DVD (according to a couple of the kiosk owners that I have spoken to). I, unfortunately, did not get to the kiosk fast enough yesterday and therefore have missed out on the first title. If any kind soul out there did get the first DVD yesterday, and does not want it, please let me know as I would love to have it!

Thanks! :l: Smiler

hey Chica, thanks for reviving this thread.

was in uk yesterday but carmen was cool enough to go get Luca for us, if i see another copy around the paper stands, how much are ya willing to pay for it. some kiosks sell them separately and if you tell me your max price and i see one, i will buy it for you.

oooooorrrrrr... i could burn a copy of minbe for ya and you can lend me that season 1 of "24". i know the original is better but "algo es algo" Big Grin

also, you could try the "el pas" headquarter out by "suanzes" metro. i have gone personally to get sold-out items that were no longer available at kiosks. i have also been told in the past at kiosks that a paper or item was not available, only to get them at the "el pas" building in suanzes. bad part is they usually cost more out there (2x the original price) but hey, Luca y El Sexo was free so 2x0 = 0 :jeje: :jeje: :jeje:

saludos,
jer...

whoooooaaaaa!!! just looked at the list you linked to Chica.

best high tail it to the kiosk first thang in the morning when "Bienvenido Mr. Marshall" comes out (20/02/2004), that one is a classic and is next to impossible to get on DVD Eeker

btw: who on earth is "JOS L. GARCA GERLANGA" :jeje:

note: around the same time that el pas comes out with these collections, "el corte ingls" also begins to stock the same titles for 5.99 each. it happened last year with the collection this thread was started on. so, if people miss any titles they want, it is worth looking at the corte.

Chica, may be worth a look to see if they have Lucia.

saludos,
jer...

Hey jer... good idea, Ill check the Corte to see if they have any good discounts. Im not concerned with it being part of the collection as I am not doing the entire thing this year. If I cant track it down...Ill have to borrow yours (wink wink nod nod).

Yes, as I have told you, you are more than welcome to copy 24 however, it doesnt leave my office, which means you have to come here to do it!! Eeker Big Grin

hmmmmm... holding on to "24" a bit too tightly huh Frowner

can't even lend it to the guy who does so much for so many Wink

for example, i went to the corte ingls in sol today (the cd-s, dvd-s, electronics, etc... store) just for you to see if they had the el pas collection.

good news, on the 1st floor right off the escalator in front of you as you get off, they have about 10 of the titles on the new collection list, including "lucia y el sexo" (had about 20 copies left out on the shelf today when i went by for you Red Face )

they cost 6.95 each and, like the last collection, they offer subtitles in spanish, english and french.

saludos,
jer...

p.d. i sure give a good guilt trip eh??? Red Face Wink

Nah...Im not falling for your guilt trip. Just to publicly defend myself of your unfair accusation... Frowner

I never said that I wouldnt lend you the DVDs, I simply said that you would have to come to the office to copy them. Red Face

I have a perfect valid reason for this (as if the the DVDs being mine and I can set the ground rules shouldnt be enough) I am not willing to let them out of my possession because I am currently using the series for one of my advanced classes. I cant exactly use them in class when they are at your house now, can I? Red Face

So, yes, jer dear...you may record the DVDs... I have no problem with that... just bring your laptop to my office and burn away! Smiler

P.S. Thanks for checking out the stock of DVDs at El Corte Ingls "just for me" :jeje:
