Hi Jeremy,
My name is Anton and I'm from Malta (island south of Sicily). I was truly amazed at the huge amount of information your site contains and absolutely love the way you set it up.
Hopefully I'll be in Madrid for a few days from the 1st September, after a week or so visiting Andalusia. I was wondering whether you can help me find someone who will download my digital camera memory and save the pictures on a CD so I can continue taking still more pictures of a wonderful country. I'll be staying near Puerta de Toledo and I would really appreciate any help.
best regards
Anton

Hi Anton,

Here are a few that might be of help (I found them by searching for "foto digital" in www.paginas-amarillas.es

ASA Digital (says they put digital photos on CD)
http://www.asadigital.com
c/ Infanta Mercedes, 33
28020 MADRID
Tel.: 91 571 92 67
Fax.:91 571 92 67
asadigital@asadigital.com

Photo Store (didn't see anything about copying to CD, but contact them to be sure)
C/ Gran Va, 84 (Tienda Konica. Plaza de Espaa)
28013 - MADRID
Tlf. 915 428 403
lukatevel@ctv.es

We visited Spain in March. I didn't need to have digital photos copied to CD until I reached Barcelona (halfway through the trip), when I used Casanova Foto near Plaza Catalunya.

As an alternative and possible last resort...if you have a card reader for your type of card, (especially if it's the kind that doesn't need drivers added to a system like Windows 2000, ME, or XP), I'll bet you can find someone who will burn your photos to CD, especially if you supply the blank CD(s) and treat them to a few caas. At the end of our trip, a "friend of a friend" copied the second half of our trip's pictures to CD for us.

Good luck!

Paul, or anyone, along the same lines, do you guys know of anywhere that you can email or take your digital flash memory card to in Madrid where they will make prints of your digital pics? I know that stores are starting to do that in the states, just wondering if it's done in Madrid yet. Thanks, Joy

Joy, that's what I did in Barcelona and went to Casanova Foto. (We were only in Madrid at the beginning of the trip, so I didn't need that service there.

Looks like the ASA Digital people (in my first message) will do it. They are located a few blocks from the Estrecho metro stop.

FNAC and (I think) El Corte Ingles now have machines that will read memory cards. I'm not sure whether they make you print paper photos through their film service or whether they'll let you just burn a CD-R.

Good information, Eduardo! Once the pictures are on CD, almost any print shop will print them out.

Hey Anton (and all).

BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!

I was by the Plaza de Espaa today and I went into the...

quote:
KONIKA Photo Store
C/. Gran Va, 84
METRO: Plaza de Espaa
28013 - MADRID
Tlf. 915 428 403
lukatevel@ctv.es
... mentioned by Paul above and I CAN CONFIRM that they DO transfer pics from memory cards to CD.

Cost depends on the amount of pics and memory they take up but the lady there told me it was between 5 and 12 Euros depending.

I also was at "fnac" on Calle Preciados just off Plaza del Callao today and they do it for 6.95 Euros. The "fnac" seems like a better deal.

Both places said you could have it back the same day (no need to leave the memory card overnight) Smiler

VERY INTERESTING!!! At the "fnac" dept. store, right down a mini staircase near the photo developing dept., they have put in a do-it-yourself machine called "e-box" Cool

It also costs 6.95 to transfer the pics from your memory card to CD. The machine has a slot for the memory card (with an adapter since not all cards are alike) and a CDrom slot.

With the machine you can also visualizae the pics on the TV screen and select which pics you want to transfer to CD Cool

Hope this helps!!!

Saludos,
jer...

This info is amazing--thanks, guys! Big Grin I was actually contemplating the idea of MAILING home my memory cards to the US because I couldn't think of any way to upload photos onto a computer in Madrid without the software.... Roll Eyes Along the same lines, does anyone know if computers in Madrid's internet cafes have CD-roms and/or photo editing programs of any sort? Once I get my photos burned onto a CD, can I use those computers to upload the pictures onto the internet? Thanks!

Forgot to say...I saw a machine in Barajas airport(Terminal 1, departures)last week that prints photos from digital media.

1 for the first three! 0.30 cada una!
0.50 to view (or print, view I think!) an index of all the photos on the disk/cd/card

Takes all kinds of memory cards/cd's etc. minimum res 400*400

Oh yeah, think you can resize them as well!

Hi Jer and All,
I've been back for a week now, and what I saw of Spain was great, and Madrid is truly addictive.
I transferred my pics at Konika in Gran Via because the machine at FNAC wasn't working. It only cost 6.95 Euro and took about five minutes in all. Fortunately some of the staff speak english which made things a lot easier.
I certainly plan to be back here often, and hopefully also in Madrid soon.
Saludos
Anton

Hi digital photo people. Ana, in answer to your 'edit & upload' query, I'm pretty sure that both WorkCenter (near San Bernardo and elsewhere) and ONO (Fuencarral and ?) have desktop image editing programs available - both offer cards which you 'charge' with time and then log in- and you can burn to CD or upload your finished work.

For anyone who wants to take a LOT (I mean a LOT Big Grin ) of digital pictures and not do much with them (other than store them) till they get home, or at least to a PC, there are some products out there designed for this. The best one I've found is called an ImageTank G2 (see a review at http://www.wetpixel.com/reviews/imgtankg2/ ) which reads CF cards. There are others which take any media like the Vosonic XSDrive 2 (see http://www.card-media.co.uk/xsdrive.htm but they're more expensive.

Happy snapping.
