Hi everyone, top marks for a most useful and entertaining board!

A quick one: does anyone know a website where I can text message a Spanish mobile? (naturally for free)... I'm connecting from the UK and have tried a few, but so far with no success - number not recognised etc. Even tried http://www.misms.com/ which said the message had been sent, but it hadn't!

Would really appreciate any help here.
Cheers, Miggus. [yin yang]

Hey Miggus, bad news my man, the free ride in sending SMS is over Frowner

That site at www.misms.com has 2 seperate services, one is the free (gratis) SMS service which is NOT guaranteed as they state on the site itself...

quote:
O si lo desea acceda al sistema de envio de mensajes sms Gratis a Movistar, Vodafone y Amena estandar y de envio NO garantizado.
You can register with them but then they want you to pay for "guaranteed SMS"; not likely!

All of the sites that used ot be free now charge Frowner

The 3 major cell carriers in Spain (Telefnica, Vodafone and Amena) have also tightened up and no longer let everyone send SMS messages for free from their websites.

You now have to be a client (ie. have a phone with their service) and register with them before you can send SMS for free.

For example, I have many phones and while I rent out phones that are on the Telefnica network, my personal cell phone is with Amena (aaaaaaarrrggghhhh!). I registered with them by dialing "222" from my phone and choosing a password (numbers only) and now all I do is go to http://www.amena.com/serviciosn_part/mensajes , click the "Continuar" button and I can send SMS to any cell phone (Amena, Telefnica or Vodafone).

All of the carriers work the same way, if you are a client and register you can use their SMS services free of charge.

The URL for Vodafone is https://online.vodafone.es/Vodafone/ServiciosOnline/HomeServiciosOnline and the info on how to get your "palabra clave" (password) is at https://online.vodafone.es/Vodafone/ServiciosOnline/VAyudaClave/0,2053,,00.html , blah, blah, blah...

Yeah, as IF anyone is going to go through the impossible registration proccess!

I have done it for you, so click HERE and enjoy it Big Grin

Note: after sending a message you will get a thank you page and there is no button to send another message, you have to go to the URL http://sms.air telvodafone.com/Vodafone/sms/SMSLogin?user=b25saW5lNjE3Nzk5NDkx&idSesion=JTdCU0hBJTdEcERKZzJNSzRKcXFrNTU3MTVaN1Z5JTJGRE9vdFElM0Q=',735,490,'sms'); each time you want to send a message. A minor inconvenience but no biggie.

Oh yeah, you can ignore the "[an error occurred while processing this directive]" warning at the top of the page, it works fine.

Saludos,
jer...

Cheers for all that Jer!
Yeah, as you rightly point out, the days of the freebies are pretty well over! I've tried your Vodafone one which I thank you for going thru their tiresome registration process - I couldn't hack it myself... Roll Eyes

So, fingers crossed will hopefully get this message through. I'll let you know if it's worked.

Many thanks, capitan. Big Grin
Cheers, Miggus

Well now the weird thing is that yesterday I was trying a few times and it wasn't working - I got an error message saying the SMS hadn't been sent. However, on trying with your link right above (which is the same as before), it now seems to be working (got the message sent response). I shall speak to the recipient tonight or tomorrow so will let you know if it's done the job.

Thanks mate. Smiler

Haa ha! Nice one jer Big Grin
Once I've got myself settled at the Finca as Webmaster I'll certainly start trying to get some folks down to visit from Madrid. Well worth it, and potentially a great place to have an overnight mad fiesta... Let me work on it a bit!

Ahhhh yes the Spanish lassies! Can't beat them really - unless they misbehave! Wink Eeker Only jesting. Will definitely give you a tinkle once over in Madrid - not long now, 2 weeks, and I can't wait!

By the way, have you seen my post 'Web Designers Collective' in Work and Residency - would love your thoughts on that one.

All the best, Miggus [yin yang]
