Hey guys,

So I'm here in the States and was eager to see how I could use my Spanish Vodafone mobile with a "pay as you go" deal here... I was especially determined to figure this out as we had an emergency on my flight from NY to DC and the plan had to turn around and land... And I had no easy way to contact my parents frowner

Anyway, found the proper service provider I needed (Cingular) and bought the sim card and 15 bucks worth of minutes... Turned the phone on and it asked me for a "subsidiary unlock code." Guess 'cause my phone isn't unlocked, right? Damn... Called Vodaphone UK to try and ask about this (because I don't have a clue of what it's called in Spanish) and they said that if you have had the phone for less than one year, you have to pay for this code. 20 pounds. Owch. cry Does anyone have info on these codes? Can I get them somewhere (I am assuming no.) Are the unique to each phone?

Jer, can you unlock phones? Is there anyway I can do this over the net by giving my IMEI number?

no chance girl!

"you can't get there from here" as they say.

but seriously.

your phone is vodafone from the uk? if so and it is not unlocked, how on earth did you use it with a spanish SIM card in spain? you get the point, if it were a vodafone uk phone and you were using it in spain with a vodafone spain SIM card, it would have to already be unlocked and would take the cingular SIM no problem.

i am guessing you are mistaken and the phone is a vodafone spain phone, not a vodafone uk one.

aaaaahhhhhh yes, yet another unsuspecting victim of the "vodafone is vodafone" assumption.

sorry, voda uk has nothing to do with voda spain. "a vodafone by any other name would stink as badly" die laughing

the vodafone uk employee who "assisted" you must have thought that you had a vodafone uk handset so she told you that about the less than a year thing but if the phone is vodafone spain, she would not even be able to sell you an unlock code for those 20 pounds. she was referring to the 20 pounds it would cost you if you had a vodafone uk phone.

depends on the brand and model.

most phones require a "hardware unlock" (eg. need to have it here to unlock it) but some nokias can still be done via the code which i can generate.

please advise as to make and model (or am i supposed to guess roll eyes nah nah)

also, your phone needs to be at LEAST a tri-band phone to work over there so if it is not then don't bother telling me the make and model.

saludos,
jer...

Jer Jer Jer... I know my phone is 100% Vodafone Spain. I got it in Spain, obviously... I just called the UK folks because the guy in the Cingular store here said they might be able to help, and I didn't feel like dealing with Spanish people right now... So anyway, I know it's Voda-Spain and locked. And yes, tri-band. I made sure to get one of those when I bought it just in case I ever wanted to use it here in the Statessmiler

The question then just comes to if you could help me unlock it. The guy said I would just need that code to enter, so maybe it doesn't need teh "hardware unlock" you mentioned, but you'll know better than me...

The phone is a Motorola V360v. So? roll eyes
