hi all, a big cry out for "socoooooooorrrrrrrrooooo" ("heeeeeeeeellllllppp") on the dvd scene.
i need somebody to lend me an american dvd so that i can test my new dvd player to see if it is realy multizone.
you see, i got an amazing deal on a no-brand dvd (a "hher" to be exact ) at the "fnac" for only 59 and it is awesome for the money it costs.
both the employee at "fnac" and he users manual say all i need to do to switch back and forth between "pal" (european playback format) and "ntsc" (north american playback format) is eject the disc tray and hit the "pal/ntsc" button on the remote.
could it be that easy???
seems way too easy as i heard one had to have a technician open these bad boys and do some chip magic to get them to do the multizone thang
so, can anyone lend me a dvd from the usa???
Chica, is your season 1 of "24" from the usa?
willing to lend it to me? if it works no prob, i also want to copy the whole thing as i have a dvd burner on my laptop.
i am willing to meet anyone anywhere to get my hands on a dvd from the states for the big test.
The Pal/ntsc issue is not the only thing to be concerned with. That just switches the output to match your appropriate TV requirement. It's REGION ENCODING that matters....USA is region 1, Europe is region 2, etc.
A multi-region player (or hacked will play multiple regions. Pay a visit to www.dvdrhelp.com and select the "DVD players" link to find your specific player and to see if there is a way to make it region free (ie: play discs from USA and Europe). Many players have a trick you can do in the setup menu to change the region
Surprisingly, it is mostly the cheaper Chinese made players that this works on.

To remove the Region Protection: -Switch On the player -Take care that there is no disc inserted -Press: Menu, 2, 0, 1, 1, Then 0 for Multiregion And that's all. ------------------------------------------------- French translation ------------------------------------------------- Pour dzoner l'appareil: -Allumer le lecteur -Veiller ce qu'il ne contienne pas de disque -Appuyer sur: Menu, 2, 0, 1, 1, Puis 0 pour multizone Et c'est tout.
and for the (my) T030 model...
quote:
For Hoher DVD players models T030/T035. Please, see below for regional setting:
1.- open the disc tray
2.- press 3622734
3.- select region 0-9 ("o" = region free)
4.- reset*
*I tested the hack and didn't have to hit reset, the screenjust said "all", which I took to mean, all regions, and that was that. It works.
so, it would seem that there is still hope, will try hacking tomorrow and let you all know.
in the meantime, Aluche and Roland can be co-kings
allright, so i could not sleep thinking about trying the de-zone thang mentioned above.
3:00am: i got up, turned on the dvd player, opened the dvd tray, pressed "3622734" and then "0" and i'll be a multizone dvd player owner as noted above, i did not have to press "reset" (lucky me since my remote has no "reset" button ).
it flashed "region free" on the upper left hand corner of my TV screen
looks like i am good to go, will test with Roland's amadeus dvd tomorrow but it looks good so far
can't believe i was actually thinking of dumping 250 on a multizone dvd just 4 months ago
saludos & thanks again for the link Aluche jer...
p.d. on the down side, when i turned on the tv, "brewsters millions" was starting so now i just HAVE to watch it, A CLASSIC!!! :jeje:
Sure, you can borrow the 24 DVD set. Well talk on Sunday about it. As you can imagine, Im not lending it to "just anyone" . Its from the USA... 6 DVDs in all... a total of 19 hours of programming.
We have two cheap DVD players that we bought for about 60 each as well. Chico got online, got the cracked code and now they are both region free.
Curiously enough, the DVD player on my laptop was not region free...so Chico to the rescue again, got online and got a program to "kill" the region code and now the DVD player on my laptop is also region free.
