Sorry for not posting very often. I've been around for awhile, but don't get out much.
I have just had a terrible situation with the service of ya.com would like to warn other people about them. I have posted the whole story on my blog here .
I will re-post it here on the board if it makes easier reading. Anyway, the point is, if you are considering them for internet service, don't.
Cheers! Naomi

just goes to show that diff. peeps have diff. experiences with isp's here in spain.
i for example have 2 adsl connex with ya.com (one at home and the other at my office) and have never had any probs. with them. good speeds, minimum downtime and a competitive price.
you wrote...

They don’t value their loyal existing customers...
... but my experience has been the opposite. they upgraded me to a higher speed and lowered my monthly bill when their new offer came out without my even having to ask them to do so.
sorry you had a bad experience but the problem is bigger than all of us since any isp can give bad service at any time so don't get too excited about another isp.
we have all heard horror stories about ALL internet service providers here in spain so it is next to impossible to make a good decision on who to use.
Yeah, the hubby who is Spanish, has been through 4 companies already and told me the same. They pretty much all suck.
Honestly, I wasn't unhappy with the service until this happened. They raised our speed also a month or so ago without raising our bill, which was good.
What makes me angry about it is not that they made the mistake or even that they cut us, but that they didn't try to solve the situation at all and were extremely rude on top of that. It was like, too bad, tough luck, sue us, we don't care.
I know the problem is bigger than all of us, but at least warning people makes me feel better, lol.

I have had the exact same problem nomi!! Same month as you too, except I only paid the bill three times!!!!!! And had two of the payments refunded.
After a first letter from ya.com saying there had been a problem which was now resolved, then followed three letters from their debt collecting agency Two phone calls to ya.com, plus three trips to the bank, and two further phone calls to the debt collectors, and it seems to have all been resolved?? I haven´t been cut off, so presumably it's sorted!!!
I must say though, that everyone I spoke to was very helpful, and that the gentleman from the agency rang me back on the day he said he would, to double check that everything was now okay

Really, MadSue? Wow! And all along they were acting like our problem was so strange and that that never happens, lol. They didn't even have a billing department to get a hold of to sort things out in our case, so I'm wondering how you got it moving!
I'm so glad to hear that it looks like yours got resolved! If I were you I would double check to make sure though. We totally thought we were okay too and look what happened. If they cut you it's really bad because you can't get dsl service back again for at least 20 days, which is the worst of all.
Anyway, I'm glad/sad to hear that we are not the only ones!

I thought that I might just add this in here, because it is farly relevant to this topic. I know Wanadoo get a lot of stick fro some people who have had bad experiences with them, but I must say in their defence, tha I am quite satisfied with the service that I have had from them for quite a while now.
They upgraded us here in the UK to 2.2 Megs adsl back in August, (okay, it was for an admin fee of £20 as well) but no big deal otherwise, but now, we've all be informed that we will all be turned up to the full 8 Megas on the 15th of December, TOTALLY FREE of charge, and I'm being sent a replacment USB modem, as I reported to them that it had not been connecting properly, ans after a full line testing by them, it was agreed to just let me have another modem with optimizer, (free again), so, all in all, I think that my £14.99 pounds per month (not including VAT-tax) £17.99 with tax...is a pretty good deal, and don;t have any issues with Wanadoo here in London, although it's true that they use BT as the ISDN 64K line provider, and you guys (I think) all have to use Telefonica, and the relationship between BT & Wanadoo here is (I think) much better/closer, and therefore there are less problems & holdups/delays etc. When I first ordered my Boradband, it was up & runnning in a week, I was amazed, and the only problem that I have had in this time is with the modem, it failed to synchronize on a number of occasions, but that's all, and like I said, they are sending me a new one for free. As for customer support, and technical support, it's mostly based over in India now, and can be a little tricky if you can't connect with the accent, but otherwise not a problem.
Cheers/Saludos/ Ciao etc

Well, a billing error can happen with any company but there is no excuse for the way they treated you nomi
I have a landline with Telefonica and Ya.com 4MB ADSL + Spain calls for free and it all works very nicely.
Comes in at about 55 Euros/month with tax and I share it with 2 housemates so @ 18 Euros a person, it is great.
I have never had any problems with them so I can only say good things. I have had to call for install/configuration help and was always treated with respect and they were helpful.

I'm writing in case anyone is interested in an update. We are still waiting to get a dsl service. We tried to go with Arrakis, but ya.com wouldn't free the line and then we ended up cancelling that because Arrakis couldn't get it. We thought maybe telefonica would be better since they have more control over the lines and have told us that our line is finally now free. Nope, they inform us that they are saturated and can't take new customers until February 23. We thought about Wanadoo, but had a problem with them a couple of years ago because they illegally signed us up for a service we didn't ask for, so we prefer not to go with them.
So yup, we are here on dial-up with one person working at a time on an average speed of 14k. Since we are web designers, our business has already lost literally thousands of euros over this thing. If I didn't feel so hopeless, I would probably feel like poking my eyes out, lol.
Anyone know of another company we can try that can set us up in 20 days or less?
Thanks!

You can try jazztel, http://www.jazztel.es They allege that they'll install the service within 20 days, but hey this is Spain, I've yet to find a telephone operator that can come up to anywhere near the level of service you get in the UK
thanks, EnglishPilot. I'm looking at them now to see how it looks. They want to offer me two services for Servicios de Voz+Internet. 1. ADSL 1024 Modem + Marcación Automática 39,95 €/mes 2. ADSL 1024 Modem + Marcación Automática 39,95 €/mes
What a dilemna! Which should I choose? lol. Ohh,my head hurts, I think I'm going to just go home and get back into bed and hide under the covers for the rest of the month, except for tomorrow, hee hee.

Thanks for the suggestion EnglishPilot! I looked into it, but unfortunately they don't offer the telephone service in my area since I am outside of the city of Madrid.
I finally decided to try Tele2. They were knowledgeable about the process and made me feel more trusting in general, so we will see how it goes this time!
