A bit overdue but congratulations Spain! In my BBC predictor (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/spl/hi/predictor/html/football/world_cup_06/default.stm) I have Spain and England meeting in the semi finals. I'm not saying which I say wins... Cervantes

For someone who hates football so much (soccer, what's soccer?), you spend a lot of time replying to threads about it, jer! Cervantes

In all fairness, I wasn't even really talking about soccer, I was just mentioning that the match was after wiffleball and trying to create some competitiveness talk... I'll take a baseball game before soccer any day, even if "borken pinkie jer" is pitching...

Is there some kind of player exchange going on between the countries and their teams? I mean, since when has Spain or Japan for example had black guys playing on their national teams? This is the first time I have ever seen this so I am wondering if the times have actually changed or what is going on?

No. I understand how all of the countries that are melting pot nations have all kinds of people from everywhere on them, but have never seen any black Japanese people before since in Japan it is both the ethnicity and their race. Unlike Cuba for example where you can be black or white and still be Cuban. In Japan you are Japanese for both. Also, for a country like Spain that has such an anti black history to have a black player on their national team seemed strange. More strange than just having citizenship or one parent from the host nation. That is why I asked about all of these non traditionally inter-racial countries with black players. I did not think it was as simple as just one of the two parents being from that country.

Rocco, even i (not a soccer fan) know that as long as the person is a citizen, they can play on the national team. so, why is it so hard for you to understand that a black person could be a nationalized japanese citizen by the same right that a latin american can be a nationalized u.s. citizen? saludos, jer...

I was almost sure that you or atleast one of your parents had to be born there. I did not think that all you needed was citizenship. This means that none of the teams will really be 100% where they say they are from and eventually will be just like regular pro soccer with anyone from anywhere on any team once they get them citizenship. In my opinion this is crap. I think in the special case of the world cup people should actually be from the country they represent and then we will know which country has the best teams.

yeah i was soooo close to playing for england in this world cup quote: This means that none of the teams will really be 100% where they say they are from and eventually will be just like regular pro soccer with anyone from anywhere on any team once they get them citizenship.
revelation!!! welcome to reality!!! hard to believe you did not know that before now countries do this A LOT Rocco, they can nationalize an elite athlete and offer him/her a lot of financial help as motivation. this happens in the olympics as well. this is nothing new. so, with the exception of brasil which is VERY unlikely to nationalize a bunch of north americans or canadians to play on their national soccer team, the countries will continue to do this, whether you like it or not. i do however believe there is a regulation on how many nationalized immigrants can be on a team but i do not know much more. if it bugs ya, write a letter to fifa saludos, jer...
