If you are a John Grisham fan (as I am...I know, junk food for reading), then you will like books by Alicia Gimnez-Bartlett. The genre is detective/police work. I have read both Menajeros de La Oscuridad and Ritos de Muerte and thoroughly enjoyed them. Your Spanish will get a real workout, and you will be introduced to alot of slang as well as the intimate neighborhoods of Barcelona and other towns in Catalua.

This isn't exactly a reference to popular Spanish literature, but a little while ago, I posted a link on the Spanish Forum for a site that has complete novels in Spanish available on the Internet( HERE'S THE LINK TO THE THREAD). If you have access to a computer and a printer, it can be a pretty economical option for you. If you don't want to go to the thread, HERE'S THE LINK WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE BOOKS! It has a pretty good assortment of books by popular, not so popular writers. Controversial and not so controversial writers... There's even a sprinkling of Cervantes and Shakespeare in there if you really get brave! poseso.... Tony --- English Unlimited... Un ambiente para aprender ingls... PIO BAROJA, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BY PIO BAROJA. You can NOT go wrong there. May be a bit advanced for you right now LarryLasagne but have it in mind for the future. Also, if you really want to pick up some MAJOR slang, get your hands on a copy of "Historias del Kronen" by Jos Angel Maas As I am not a lit. critic and I hate the idea of lit. criticism by anyone but the athors themselves, I shall not review it but here is a brief description I took of of another site... quote: Historias del Kronen es la crnica veraniega de un grupo de jvenes madrileos y de sus actividades cotidianas; proveerse de drogas, el sexo, los bares de copas, los conciertos de rock, las relaciones entre amigos, la familia... Narrada en primera persona por Carlos, un muchacho que intenta eliminar de su vida los sentimientos y los escrpulos, la novela nos introduce en un mundo fcil, obsesionado por la violencia y el culto a algunos de sus smbolos actuales.
It WILL keep you entertained! Saludos, jer...

I'm probably gonna get blasted for this, but I'm loving reading the Harry Potter books in Spanish . . . :jeje: (hurray, I finally got to use the whirly thing). But I also like the Francisco Garcia Parvon (I think) books about Plini the detective, altho I have only read them in the easy-to-read Spanish versions . . .
Glory, glory to the hibees . . .
