just thought i would start a new thread on a new dvd collection that is now out with the el pas newspaper.
today was the fisrt movie and it was free with the paper for those who were lucky (and early risers) enough to get their mits on it.
it was "casablanca" and the collection is pretty cool as each flick comes in a box-set type package with the movie on dvd and an illustrated book about the movie
my sister-in-law to be went to a few newspaper stands in her neighborhood this morning and it was totally sold out so she went to "vips" where they had a few left and was barely able to grab 2 of them, one for her and another for us.
she reported that it was a mad attack of peeps grabbing at the few that remained
now there will be a new dvd with the paper every saturday for 8.95 euros (i think).
Jordi and I got up early for our free copy this morning. I just thought it was going to be the movie, but the little book that comes with it is great!
jer, as you mentioned in your post, it is a little tricky to get a hold of it. When we got to the news stand, they had more than enough copies of the the newspaper there, but they only had two copies left of the movie! Apparently they didn't recieve as many movies as they did papers. Also, the free DVD was not anywhere near the newspaper itself; If you didn't know that the free movie was supposed to come with the paper, you could have easily bought the paper by itself and never known the difference. We actually had to ask for the DVD at the news stand because we didn't see it anywhere.
Either way, it is a great offer and if you're into classic movies, you should definitely take advantage of the other DVD's that will be sold with the paper on Saturdays. I think the booklet alone is well worth the 9 Euros you need to fork out for the movie.
We got our copy today as well... we went to three newsstands before picking up a copy in San Sebastin de los Reyes.
The nice thing about this collection is that the DVD has both languages: English and Spanish in audio and subtitles!
On a side note, I also picked up a copy of El Mundo today since they were giving away a book of cooking from Catalua to kick off their collection of culinary books from the different regions of Spain.
There are so many offers right now, it's hard to keep track of them all... The Catalan cookbook from El Mundo is really nice. Can't wait to get the rest.
We always have good luck at the newstand on Duque de Alba (for Jer and Phillysuperfuzz, since we're neighbors). It's just up from Plaza de Cascorro, one block off Calle de Toledo, at the beginning of the Rastro. We get out pretty late on Sundays, but he always seems to have lots of the freebies and extras. I think he closes up around 2:00 or 2:30.
