FACTS: 1. My wife is finishing a Master Degree in Family Counselling in Spain (2 years program). 2. Her Bachelor's degree in Psychology is from Greece (4 years program). I have a Business Administration diploma from Greece too (4 years program) 3. We are planning to move in New York – U.S.
QUESTION: Which institution in the US is in charge of the recognition procedure of foreign University degrees (convalidation)? How do you convalidate your E.U. degrees in U.S.?!
I tried to google the thing but I got confused from some 100 federal and state educational committees I found.
Big Thx in advance! =================== P.S. Jer, that new forum is really smashing. I'm quite impressed. Keep on the good work! =======================================================================
I'm sorry I know nothing about convalidation of degrees in the US. If it is like Spain, you only need that for teaching or civil servant jobs. If you want to teach in the US, you can go through what they call "alternative" programs or routes to a teaching degree. The programs allow you to teach from day one. Normally, a few night classes are required and then you get a US teaching certificate and they help you to convalidate. All of this is driven by the US teacher shortage!
I want to convalidate my degrees here in Spain, seems its a real nightmare here. If anyone has already done it here in Spain (with US degrees), I love to hear about it.
Good luck,
Val

hey val...i am pretty sure board member kristin is in the process of co-validating. i know she has to take a slew of classes online and other bureacractic things. I am sure she'd love to tell you about it. I'll send you her email in a private message, okay. Candy

Val, I appreciate your help and I thank you for the interest. I think that my wife could need co-validation/recognition of her diploma in order to take a therapeutic license as a psychologist in U.S.A. or something like that. In the same way of thinking, in order to officially keep accounting books and other fiscal things, in Europe you must have a Bachelor's degree related to Accounting' I suppose in U.S.A. I'll need my diploma co-validated if I'm interested e.g. in being "Chartered Accountant"
I'm still looking for the institution that is responsible of that process in the United States.
Here for example, in Spain, it is some sub-agency of the Ministry of Education.
