Pleased for you Ryan big grin Glad you're now able to give Madrid a chance to work its magic on you. Hopefully, you will have learned from this experience that Spain works in a very different way to US and UK. Enjoy your stay big grin

I am happy to hear that you have finally found something that meets your needs.

I never meant "boasting" the way you took it.
I specifically meant that you were going on and on about seeing place after place and then having people give you loads of advice, but you not only did not take the advice and help that was offered but started talking about how you did this or did that with your money after someone else mentioned your budget.
So I was only calling you picky not ostentatious. In fact I lived in LA myself for 5 years before moving to Madrid and can see that by what you said you were paying for rent there why you were not finding anything similar here.
Again, in my opinion what you should have done was just either book an apart-hotel or hotel where you could have stayed in the lap of luxury indefinately until the time was right for you to move into your own ideal place. Or if you wanted to save money you could've just booked a generic no frills room in a shared flat through me for 15 euros a night that would not have cost you more than 450 euros a month max.
But then again hindsight is 20 - 20.

Hmm, tough crowd... It's easy to imagine someone doing just about everything right and having a week or two of bad luck in the random craziness of Madrid. The first weeks of setting up some semblance of a normal life are always the hardest.

Hey Ryan--tell us, what ended up panning out for you? Where did you find your place--segunda mano? How did you convince them that Americans aren't evil incarnate? What neighborhood did you end up landing in? ¡Detalles, por favor! Might help the next refugee to hit the scene...

Just noticed this question posed to me.....

I found the place advertised on loquo.com but I think he said he also put it on segundamano.es. It wasn't really a question of convincing him Americans aren't evil incarnate (they either already believe that or they don't), it was more a matter of finding someone whom you'd get along with that likes you. I saw plenty of places that I liked and I liked the people living there but I was one of 20 wanting to move in, so they obviously got a better vibe from someone else (the beauty of diversity).

I'm living in Malasaña, by the way, and I happen to think it's the best neighborhood around. I definitely was blessed to find it. Never considered it before, but considering the fact that there are 3 metros within a 5 minute walk and 10 within a 10 minute walk....I'd say transportation here is not a problem. =) Hopefully this information will help someone in the future.

With regards to MadridInsider, I don't really know what to say. I just don't think you know what you're talking about. That's all.

Ciao,
Ryan

Since I always tell everyone to start off by getting a short term place for around one week and to do the search for themselves by looking in the Segunda Mano, Loquo and / or Campus Anuncios. And you found your place on Loquo, which was also listed in the Segunda Mano, I guess you are right and I am wrong and I do not know what I am talking about. nutz
