there have been loads of discussions regarding Americans working here on this and other boards. Do a search here and Daves ESL cafe.
Around Madrid finding work is easy. All schools pay cash and don't really care what your status is. Getting legal work is far more difficult. I can't answer specificly about Galicia but from what I've read the further you move away from Madrid to the south the harder it is to find decent work as everyone wants to live in the south.
Teaching English is good for a few years but long term you have to find a why of getting legal.

gotta do your homework here and research the info you need as there is a ton of it already on the board. multimadrid has been around for MANY years and there is a lot of great info here.
Galicia is lovely, but why Galicia? I've met a number of people who've picked a region out of a hat and focused on it for no reason other than the fact that that was where they chose when they first decided on coming to Spain.
Like I said, nowt wrong with Galicia, it's lovely, but why?
