hey binkx, that response from you workmates is SO on the money. it is just plain STUPID the crap a legal immigrant has to go through in the u.s.a. to get what takes maybe 15 hours on lines and 15 euros here to do. i think that americans (and canadians, sorry Rob) think they rule the world (generalization) and expect everything to be easy for them everywhere they go. what most do not realize is that the vast majority of the rest of the countries of the world DO NOT WANT THEM in their countries to begin with (with the exception of a short tourism trip to spend and then leave). had to be said. saludos, jer...

Hmm, anyone able to verify this? I have just heard this very morning that, as of about 3 weeks ago, residencias have been scrapped for EU citizens. I know they have not been required for a while now, but that Brits etc could get them if they wished, but now that option has been taken away From now on, the only proof of residencia will be the certicate of empadronomiento from the Town Hall. I've been told if I want an ID card I have to get one from Britain!!!!!!

Hi Jer thanks for the diplomatic update of my post. I met with a friend who's been here 7 years and has a good understanding of Spanish bureaucracy, Firstly he said if you don’t ask they won’t tell, which makes sense, secondly I realized the form I was using (same one as in the link that was posted) is for those who have EU passports. In other words if your Romanian then welcome to Spain, if you’re say, an American married to a Romanian than you are out of luck. The problem is now figuring out what the process is for those married to a non Spanish EU passport holder. I’ll start by PMing some of people who’ve used lawyers and take it from there. Once I get the information I’ll post what the process was. Wish me luck

actually, it is better if you keep it all on the board as it will help others in the future so please do not do it via private messages but rather post on it here. pm are for private and delicate topics and yours is not. too many private messages can ruin a forum. just imagine if everyone sent a pm all the time instead of posting, there would be no info on the board saludos, jer...

Binx, Don't forget that you will have to renew in about a year's time, but at least you have been through the process. Shawn

making progress quote: I think that the problem is that the Law regarding the "Tarjeta en régimen Comunitario" has changed from the 2nd of April. Please find attached the new form to apply for it. In "Datos de la Solicitud", you should specify "Tarjeta de residencia de familiar de ciudadano de la Unión"/ "Cónyuge". In addition of the form, you should carry this documentation: - Passport of your husband - Copy of Canadian Marriage certificate (it should be translated and legalized). - Your "Tarjeta de residencia". - Three photos
I'm going to Call the Canadian Embassy to see if they can recomend anyone to translate the Marriage Certificate. I'm not looking forward to do the 6+ hour wait again, I may pay someone to do it for me or else arrive early (say 6 am) and bring along a chair. I also have a freind in the same situation so I'll pass on the info to her as well.
