Hey all, I suddenly find myself with Olympic fever! So, I have designed a little logo in line with the look of multimadrid to promote the candidacy of Madrid as the location for the 2012 summer games Big Grin

Coooooooool Cool !

Keep in mind that I have based the design on the poster that the city is using to promote the idea, you can see the poster on a previous post inthis forum by clicking HERE.

The "2M12" stands for "2"-"Mil"-"12", the word "Mil" meaning "Thousand" (2012 = MMXII) and also the letter "M" standing for Madrid, this was my intention anyway, to play on the logo.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. The town hall is plastering the city with the posters and I hope to get some free publicity out of it all for my olympics section since I am the proud new owner of the www.2m12.org ( ) domain name (which now takes you to multimadrid.com but will soon direct the visitor to the Madrid Olympics Web).

p.d.d. For any "piratas" ("pirates") out there, don't get any smart ideas, I already registered it as a trademark, too fast for my own good Big Grin !

Go, Jer! Very, very nice, indeed. Who else is angling for the Games this far in advance?

Hay Sue, thanks for the ra-ra encouragement.

Actually, many of the domains related to the Madrid possibility for 2012 have been taken by wankers (I don't know who) that do nothing with them but try to sell them I guess Frowner

You go to the domain and get the world famouse "HTTP 404 cannot find" error.

Sadly, this is the most pathetic aspect of the Internet and is something I have always despised. Do you realize that www.madrid.com is not even Madrid related, that must piss a lot of people off!

I guess I got lucky with www.2M12.org Big Grin

Nice logo. Well thought out, and the concept is worth considering as a submission to the Madrid Olympic Committee. I understand that the logos that are designed by independents end up generating a hefty amount of money, and residules on all items sold where it is included. Even if it's unofficial, it would make a nice t-shirt and cap logo. The only problem is the Olympic rings. You have to get written permission from the IOC to use it on anything.

Amongst the challengers for the 2012 Summer Olympics, London, Houston and Dallas, Texas, and The Orlando area in Florida, as well as Madrid.

The new IOC Chairman has indicated that he'd like to see the games held in Germany. Strangely enough, that's not necessarily going to happen, but rest assured, if Munich gets an opportunity to host the games, after what happened there in 1972, it will be like a concentration camp to protect the athletes, and there will be fences on every perimeter of every venue, to keep people away from the athletes. Personally I would like to see Madrid get it, but rest assured, that's going to permanently drive the prices up in the area... It has everywhere else the Olympics have been held. So... there is a downside to hosting them, for the local people, after they are over.

Hey Savage, thanks for the great insight. I fear that my ignorance on the whole Olympic tradition/history is unforgivable but I appreciate your help.

I have whipped up the following variation on the logo, I think I may have avoided the Olympic rings copyright problem and at the same time spiced up thelogo and made it even more "Madrid" with the colors of the flag of the Comunity of Madrid Big Grin

I do assume the risk of the post-Olympic games price hike here in Madrid but I would love to see the games come nonetheless Smiler

Jer,

I believe the design you made is extremely tasteful, and captures the new millenium in concept. To be honest, I don't think you would have too much of a problem getting permission to use the Olympic rings as part of an ongoing promotional effort in support of the Spanish Olympic committee's attempt to get the games held in Madrid. In fact, if you contacted the organizing committee, which my guess is in Madrid, and showed them your effort, they might get the approvals for you. Especially when you indicate what you intend to do online, to support their efforts. Who knows? They might even adopt your design as their second logo... and you'd get residuals.

I would also consider getting copyright on the 2016, and 2020 Olympics as well, using the same idea. Often it takes two or three tries before a city is granted their request for the games. That would cover a period of time that could be very beneficial for you. You may not get rich as soon, but later isn't all that bad either is it? Smiler
