Hey ya'll! The Madrid Marathon is coming up in April.... just wondering if there are any other runners/joggers/ walkers/supporters/crazies out there that might be looking forward to this. I don't expect a big response --- but perhaps there are a few of us out there to share this experience. ?????

Hey Akordish --

I may be interested in participating and perhaps chico too.. When and where is the marathon and how do we go about registering? Does the marathon benefit any particular non-profit?

Maybe we can get a multimadrid team going!

Thanks...
Chica

Hi - The madrid marathon is Sunday, April 27th and is run all over the city.... a great way to see 42 kilometers of it. The website, with registration instructions and course is at www.maratonmadrid.org - check it out. There's still time to get ready, if you've done some running. Anyone else interested? Anne. -

We would definitely fall under the walkers/crazies category. Its been years since I did any serious running...

So, jer, whaddaya say? A walking team??

Hi to all fellow runners and walkers and crazies: for those who want to start out slow there's the Madrid Half Marathon on April 6. I'm doing both, the half and the whole shebang (so help me God). Already did them before, it's a lot of fun. I'm definitely a slow runner so I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression. My marathon time was 5:07, for the half my best time is something around 2:20. But I think we should organize a multimadrid group, it'd be neat, maybe we could get t-shirts or something and Jer you could get great pictures for posting too (even if you don't want to run with us).

Hey Lena, I am in NY until April 7th but I like the t-shirt idea for the full Marathon on April 27th Big Grin

So, if I make the shirts up for the mm runners (as Chica proposed a multimadrid team), how many multimadridians are gonna run???

So far I gather...

 Anne (Akordish).
 Lena.
 Becky (Chica).
 Angel (Chico).

And more importantly, would those running be willing to darn the proud orange and blue of multimadrid??? Big Grin

Would need to know ASAP for the shirts!!!

I, of course, can not run since I need to take the photos Big Grin Wink Red Face (aside from the fact that I am fat, lazy and out of shape :jeje: ).

Just a commentary on the local sports climate... The mediomaraton last sunday was fantastic! It was my first "race".... and a overall a great experience. The weather was perfect, course great and there was a crowd of 9000 happy runners. But I was absolutely disappointed that the TV coverage was limited to 5 seconds of crowd scene and the supporter turnout very spotty (even counting the folks trying to figureout how to get across the street in one piece). I do think that the media is going to have to get with it, and embrace something besides football....If Madrid will have any hope of creating a local climate to support international sports - or even to create obviously needed healthy pursuits for the jovens.... Hope they do better with the maraton. Anne. Have to pass on the shirt idea - I'm not sure I can do it without my lucky shirt...

Like Jer, I am just too damn lazy to run 46km. I loathe running. But I am in to support (and help Jer take pics?) all the runners/walkers and I would proudly wear blue and orange!!

Hi there,
I just arrived in Madrid this week and would love to participate in the marathon later this month. I am missing my gym back home so it would be great to get some exercise!

Hey Carrie, welcome to the group Big Grin If ya miss your gym you could also take a look at our thread on GOOD GYMS IN MADRID Cool Hope it helps.

Ok, as for the marathon, maybe T-shirts for next year as it is too late for this year.

Anne, glad you enjoyed the run, I spoke to lena last night at our multimadrid GET TOGETHER and she was also at the half marathon but said she did not see ya due to the HUGE amount of participants.

I could not agree more, especially with the Olympic bid in for 2012.

Unfortunately, they (media) never ever really cover the full MAPOMA event for more than a few seconds Frowner

Running scared - is what I would be, but I'm still tempted to enter. What's the score with the MM crowd - how many, if any, of you are definitely running? Lena, Becky, Akordish, Carrie... anyone else? Give me a clue as to how long you think it will take you and I can decide if I'm crazy to try. Having never run a marathon before I don't know if it would be a case of "mad dogs and englishmen". As it is, I just get back to Madrid in time to do at least one of the following:

a) die of exhaustion in a futile attempt to finish the course in daylight (on the eve of my new job no less!)
b) shout words of encouragement to anyone identifying themselves to me as an MM nut
c) take some pictures of said nuts (which could of course appear online - perhaps with the assistance of our great non-jogging chief?)

let me know

Adrian

Umm, that would be chico and I... As some of you know, we are relocating to Madrid (and leaving behind the beautiful mountains boo hoo!!) and precisely on the day of the half marathon, we were moving some of our things to our new digs... It was a trick trying to cross Bravo Murillo with all the runners in the way (ha ha!)...

glad you all had a good time...I am in no way near any shape to run in the full marathon...

On a rollerblading note, I have spotted a park near our place that seems to have the perfect path for rollerblading... and now that we are in the city, I am definitely up for some blading... any other takers out there? Madrid Insider? jer? anyone else?

I LOVE your idea Jer!!! Although I know I can last longer than 1km (walking that is; running for less than 1km). So Jer wanna sign up as a walker then get a beer after each km?
 times 46. jejeje
