What's the best translation for this interjection? Women seem to use it a lot.

that is buuufff... as in booooffff (English pronunciation)....not buff as in naked, right? :jeje:

The translation would depend on the context that its used in. For example....when the interjection "buuuufff" is used to express mild incredulousness (that IS a word, right?) or mild humour at a situation or joke... I would relate it to the "tsssss" sound we make (air escaping between tounge/roof of mouth & teeth).

When used to express disdain at something, I would translate it as the commonly written "pshaw" but the sound is produced by having a mouthful of air and letting it escape quickly through the lips.

When the "buuuuufff" is used as an interjection in response to something difficult or an impossibility, I would translate it as "uufff" or "ummmphh", sound we make.

Did ANYONE follow what I just wrote? Confused As I am writing this reply, I am practicing these sounds, and Chico is concerned, thinking that there is something wrong with me!! Big Grin

(well...maybe there is! Red Face )

Mmmmm....you got me thinking with this one....though I think the sound I make it's much more Pufffff! than Bufffff! Smiler

In my case, I say it to get some instant, though minimal Frowner , stress relief, have had to go Pufffff! quite a lot lately I'm afraid! (BTW, what's clear is that the trick to do that is in all the fffffffffffffs) Cool

Yes, "buuuffff", with many u's and f's. My guess was that it was like, "Hmmmm" or "Gosh (does anyone say that anymore), that's a tough one."

I hear it as 'boof' and take it as a sign or punctuation of disbelief before or after a sentence or statement.
Kind of like a huff at the end of a
"I can't believe the quality/amount of/nerve of whatever... Eeker BOOF!!! Eeker " or at the begining like
" Eeker BOOF!!! Eeker Can you believe the..."
