Hey all you Rock'em, Sock'em English teachers out there!!

I'm here to tell you that there are a handleful of English classes I will be giving up if your interested!?!

All the classes are business classes so if you're worried about the upcomming 'end' of the regular school year...fear not, these students are adult-professionals and are serious about their English classes!

The first is a private class Mon, Tues and Wed with two ladies at a fine-upscale restaurant in Chueca. They pay 17€ (for both) and pay every Wed! That's 51€ cash-in-hand a week, great for lunches, dinners, a night of clubbin or maybe a pair of heels for the weekend!

The rest are through an academy called 'SpeakEasy' . A great Academy that Juliette and Roland passed me on to! The first class through them is a gal that works at a publicity company that rents ad space in our beloved city. You may have seen the large billboards on the sides of buildings? This class pays 16€ an hour and class is held twice a week from 2-3pm (she's flexible on the days).

Next are two television reporters from TVE 2. You may have seen them on the late night news (10pm-ish). They travel alot, through Europe and the Middle East and even the states 'on occasion'. They pay 17€ an hour, two hours a week. Currently we hold class from 10-12 (mid-morning) on Fridays.

Next a gal that works for Phillip Morris (yes the tabacco company). This class pays 16€ an hour and currently we hold class from 8-9:30pm Weds in Plaza Castilla.

Finally, a gal that works for the Ministery of Health. This class pays 16€ and we hold class from 4-5pm Fridays near metro Estrella.

If my math is right that's 157€ a week or about 628€ a month!!!

All these classes are expected to continue on through the Summer and beyond!!! Please let me know if anyone is interested!!!

Thanks,

M

I am definitely interested. I will arrive in Madrid on April 26th and will be teaching some banking and legal english classes at InLingua, but would love to pick up more classes, if possible. What are the requirements? could you provide more info? Just post it here on the board.

Hi,
I know I hardly post on here but just saw this...any classes still available??

I currently teach for Windsor but classes end in mid-June and I'll be left with only my private class twice a week...just not enough to keep up with rent, gastos and all those summer parties wink

So if anyone knows of anything...thanks in advance,

K

Hey there,

Fatima at SpeakEasy IS looking for more teachers. She's great and reliable. Call her at 91 7512067.

Also, if you're legal (not necessary for SpeakEasy) try Roberto Gutierrez at 607658958. I teach for him as well; tell him I suggested you call.

Hello,

I#m new to this forum. I'm looking for any information I can find on teaching in Barcelona. I've found lost of info for Madrid, much of it thanks to you guys, but my flight to Spain lands in Barcelona. Also, I'm looking for any info on companies that can help me obtain a work visa in Barcelona or Madrid.

Muchas Gracias,

Juan Cortez

Thanks for all the help guys! Since I am just starting on this and kind of lucked into my work with InLingua, I haven't made a CV yet. I mean I have a resume, but that doesn't translate. So does anyone have a sample CV or know of a website that has sample CV's I could look at (or if we're speaking proper english, at which I could look. ha ha).

thanks for the quick reply.
Im also curious as to how easy it is to find a job that will help you obtain a work visa. So far this has been the most difficult. Everyone wants you to already have a work visa but the spanish gov. won't give you one unless you have a job offer.

thanks llewilli! cool

hey juan, if your profile is correct, you are from austria and hence are part of the eu. you will not require a working permit here, you can get a job with your passport as id but it is best o get a spanish residency card for future use. this means going to the police station with the proper forms and applying as an eu citizen.

do some searches as the process is WELL documented here in the board.

a quick note about CVs.....if you will be looking for work in an English academy, you don't have to put your CV/resume in Spanish....english is fine, especially as many of the academies know that new teachers don't necessarily speak Spanish.

also, you don't HAVE to put your photo on the CV, again for teaching English....though it can't hurt.

you DO need to put a local number and address. don't expect folks to contact you by email.

also...DO state language skills somewhere with Engish listed as mother tongue.
you might also add a line somewhere like,
"grew up in Boulder City, Colorado, USA"

that lets them know you speak American english....or if you put Bristol, UK....British english....some jobs depend on this distinction.

good luck
