Let me give a big fat echo of the sentiments expressed by 'chica.' Great site! Big Grin I'll be sure to put it to good use!! Cool

One curiosity though, have you tried taking out the annual membership(quia)? Is it worth the investment in your opinion? Normally, I like to design my own templates and even javascript & PERL quizzes, but it would be nice to spend my time in a different manner if these guys do that work for me. Just wondering. Smiler Thanks again for sharing the link with us.

Well, tonytorero, I believe I did subscribe when I was actually teaching. Since I don't know how to do that technical stuff, I did like using it. Do you find your English learners over there pretty highly motivated? The majority of my kids "took" Spanish, because they wanted the credit and it was required for entry into some colleges. They were very good at the short term: learn, test, forget. Some actually "learned" it, because they realized it was fun and useful!
There is a program in Rota for volunteers(!) to come and teach/converse with kids in Spanish schools---so they realize that all Americans are not Navy personnel. A true, inexpensive volunteer program---and even the airfare is supposed to be tax-deductible. I want to do this with my husband----no Spanish required! He's a nice grandfatherly type, they'd love him.

More info? Will re-visit the site and post it for other retirees who may be on the board.

Here it is:

Thank ya' Ma'am! Smiler Concerning your questions and comments:

Frankly, motivation in our line of work (language schools) seems to be economic...not that some can pay for it and some can't, but rather those who pay for it themselves are MUCH more motivated than those who don't. Big Grin It's much easier to reach the adults as they're financially 'tied into' the course that they're studying. We do everything we can to motivate everyone, but it's naturally easier with some than with others. I've always said that 90% of a language instructor's job is motivation. Smiler

I will say though that the youngest groups we teach (4-9 years old) are actually quite motivated and those tend to be my favorite groups to work with because they're such sponges at those ages. It will be interesting to monitor these students' motivation as they get older. (I'll keep you posted... The board's not going anywhere is it Jer?! Wink )

Those are the students that are the most fun and rewarding to work with. You tend to learn as much (or more) from these groups as they do from you! I believe that a lot of their success and interest in classroom situations like the one you have just described ties directly into the motivation and enthusiasm that the teacher invests into these classes. Smiler

Here is the most amazing teacher website! I use it almost daily with my students. The songs are great. I love to use Ojal que llueva caf en el campo when I teach the dreaded subjunctive! The dialogue on the imperfect and preterite is also quite good to hear the galician accent. ( which I absolutely love ) :ks: Espero que os guste.

Me gusta mucho, Marcela. Smiler

I also found a website. Not to practise the Spanish language, but just interesting to see how many Enlish words have Spanish origines.
