I know there used to be at least one remaining open-air cinema left in Madrid but I can't seem tolocater it. Anyone out there know whaich one I am talking about or am I off my rocker (nuts!)?
If it has been closed down, anyone want to invest some capital and open one up with me ?
Ok, so I am a spazz! I just looked some more and found it
Parque de la Bombilla, Avda. de Valladolid (91 541 3721) METRO: Prncipe Po. Busses: 41, 46, 75. Open July through September starting at 10.15pm every day. Price: 500ptas * 400ptas over-65s & students.
Some original version flicks are shown as well.
And to think, I used to tell my students to look a little harder before asking me for the answer.
Well, now that we know where it is, anyone been there that can tell us about it?
Jer, I finally registered. I have been rather busy.
The post on the outdoor cine prompts me to ask a question? Is it a drive in like the u.s. or do people sit in lawn chairs?
Talking about older things, does anyone remember a club from the 60's called Whiskey and Jazz? (real small place) Does it still possibly exist? Ava Gardner was there all the time with a U.S. air force major. Another memory is a jazz album called Sketches of Spain. (I think by Miles Davis.) It will send your mind out to the Spanish frontier.
Hey Arnie, better late than "nunca" ("never") my friend, good to have you aboard!
Well, I wish it were a drive-in theatre, would probably make serious cash seeing as the Madrileos have a passionate love affair with their motor vehicles. I will reiterate my business proposition to open one with anyone who has the capital to invest .
Actually, it is a sit down theatre with seats as in any indoor theatre (but made of plastic in this case). It is used in the summertime as a venue for the Madrid Cine de Verano film festival and is pretty cool
Jejeje, I was born in January of 1972 so normally i would not know jack about that club from the 60s , however, since I am such a Madrid nut, I have actually heard rumors (more like legends) about it. Used to be called "BOURBON STREET", right? Well amigo, Iit saddens me to say that it no longer toots and blows on the Madrid nihtlife scene. Now we get our jazz fixes at clubs like Caf Central (Plaza del Angel n 10), Clamores (Alburquerque n14) & Segundo Jazz (Comandante Zorita n 8 ).
Jazznuts? Check out www.jazzspain.com for cool cat stuff Plus, if you are into Blues and Jazz, check out this great website for Spain at www.spainblues.com/local3.htm <---this is a link to a list of clubs in Madrid but there is info on all of Spain as well on their site (in Spanish and English).
There used to be an open air cinema in 'Casa Campo' maybe I'm going back toooooo many years! And I remember the film.........Herbie.....the car with its own mind. Yes what a sad person I am.jejejejeje
