Hola todos, for those of you who will be in Madrid on Sunday, Nov. 18th 2001, don't be surprised if you see loads of wacky Madrile�os in the streets with their Cameras. Sunday (usually the 2nd Sunday in Nov.) is the annual "Marat�n Fotogr�fico de Madrid" (Madrid Photography Marathon) and yours truly has signed up.

Those interested in participating can sign up for 350 ptas. at pretty much any major Photography store in Madrid up until and including Saturday, Nov. 17th. (tomorrow!). You can see a list of the sign up stores on their website listed below.

Basically it starts at 10am in the Plaza Mayor and you are given a roll of film and a type of riddle instructions on what to photograph which requires some (although not much) thought as it is early on a Sunday.

First prize is 2,000,000 pesetas and it is loads-o-fun. You turn in your full roll of film after a few hours of running around Madrid and then they post the best photo of each participant (as well as the winning photos) at a photo show in the Casa del Campo (usually) a few weeks later.

As a side note, last year neither "Ena" (my girlfriend) nor I finished in the top 10 but I know I am still a great photographer even though those folks do not recognize me as such

Oh well, I guess it is not really winning that is important, it is participating

We went to the expo where they put up the photos nominated for the prizes and the participants vote for the winners. My photos were absent from the "nominees wall" as were those of my girlfriend Ena but they did post (as they do every year) the best photo of each participant in the marathon as well.
