Jer, you're a prince! Thank you for sharing the webcams with us. When I got there last year the plaza was already set up and filled to the brim with people and stands. The items were a bit cheezy but a lot of fun! I have on my home and work computer your Plaza in December desktop picture that shows the snow falling! It reminds me of my visit! I miss Madrid! ( I need a graemlin with a tear)

I was in Madrid over Christmas in 1995, and was really surprised by some of the stuff they were selling in the Plaza Mayor. It just didn't seem to have much to do with Christmas. But I thought Christmas in Madrid in general was great. I don't know if this is a regular occurrence, but there were also stands set up along the Paseo del Prado that sold a lot of crafty kinds of things. This Christmas talk reminds me, I need to get some turron!

QuePasa, I already bought my turrones! Sanchis Mira! For some bizarre reason, my grocery store brought turrones, Sidra Asturiana and Jamon Serrano Navidul for the Christmas Holiday. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! North Florida does not have a big Spanish speaking constituency, like South Florida, so it is rare to find goodies like Turron north of Orlando! Ay 'pa Espaa me voy! :l:

Booklady, You got sidra??? Oh man, does that sound good. One of the guys I lived with when I went to school in Leon was from Gijon. I went home with him over the Constitution holiday and I loved the sidra. My friend and his brother taught us how to pour it, which was really fun, although I missed the glass quite a bit. Yummy! I've gotta get some of that too!!

Crud. I really regret not coming to Madrid last week to see the plaza in winter. Live and learn. While BCN is lovely, true, it does not have the same.....soul. I am already investigating spending some miles to get there again in 2003. (sooner if we win the xmas lottery!)

Mermaid, When we win El Gordo, we will all meet at the Plaza Mayor and raise a glass of Cava to, Jer! Jeremy, you sure were right about the tacky things they sold! But it sure was festive, the children seemed so excited ! and the pesebros were beautiful!

Grant Jer' - the Plaza sure does get cluttered during XMAS and your view is somewhat spoiled, but if I didn't destroy too many brain cells during my years in Spain, you have an awesome view for the mahem that is New Year's Eve. Now...that is a party. And you have front row seat, tio!

Hey TJGuy, emmmmm... errrrrrr... BRAIN CELL ALERT!!! BRAIN CELL ALERT!!! Actually, the Plaza Mayor is not where the yearly New Yrs. celbration is, that is the Puerta del Sol you are thinking of ( THREAD) Luckily, I have my new office this year and can see SOL from here. quote: your view is somewhat spoiled
Yes, the Plaza Xmas Market is UUUUUGGGGLLLLLYYYYY but for a people watcher (not voyeur, there is a fine line there ), it is a great time to watch the MASSIVE crowds. Visits to the PlazaCam also nearly double around that time of year Time for the Madrid nuts to sign up for the STREAMING PLAZACAM Just think of it as a holiday gift to yourselves Saludos, jer...
