I had one pair of jeans for the flight over and ended up wearing them a week!!!!!!! I didn't know I would be so inappropriately dressed as we toured Avila ( the one time I wore shorts). There were only two other women who I saw wearing shorts the whole week we were in Spain and they were German. It was in the mid 70's when we went. I would have fit right in if I had worn slacks and leather shoes. Oops!

Hey Bump,
This is a perfect example of why this board rocks. If you had poked around in the various clothing threads you would have found out that the women in Spain DO NOT break out the shorts unless they are at the gym or jogging. Or, if they are cute dressy girly shorts, preferably tight worn with high heels.

Shorts are just not done. Guys can get away with it, but they look like foreign tourists.

Then again, you are a tourist so you can really wear whatever you want...

What women do wear in the hot months are: skirts, loose blousey pants, calf-length pants, summer dresses, tank tops.

Live and learn, right! I hope you had fun anyway!

Hey bumpkin, yes, Candela is referring to our handy dandy [search] SEARCH PAGE [search]

There are quite a few mentions of the wearing (or better said, "non-wearing") of shorts in Spain.

Women (and most men) do not wear shorts here, especially to go out.

Sometimes you will see some women wearing shorts in July or August but only when they are on vacation at their summer vacation spots.

The Spaniards are very fashion conscious, often to the point of giving up comfort and practicality for the "look".

Personally, I wear shorts just about every day from mid-may through mid September. I am always hot, even in January. It is my particular physionomy that cuases me to overheat, even in winter so I prefer comfort over fashion ANY DAY!!!

Just call me a big old tourist!!! Big Grin

I saw comments on the board about slacks and POINTY shoes but missed the one about shorts just not being worn. I saw lots of Levi jeans so I wasn't too off on that. Many Spaniards like adding red highlights or chunks to their hair. Also, I wondered about popular fragrances for ladies in Spain. Everything was enchanting.

It is quite an uncommon thing indeed; but in any case, I guess Spanish GIRLS and not WOMEN would wear shorts around the city. If it gets too hot miniskirts are in order! (or as Jer would put it, it's miniskirts galore! :jeje: )
