WOW!!! I know that Jer will have a toast for us and next year, count me in for Christmas dinner, Jer. I have learned my lesson and won't make the same mistake again by waiting. Roll Eyes

I also learned that with all of the craziness with airlines, that many flights have been cutback this year.

I remember the Plaza Mayor as it was in 1964. There were no modern vendor stands as you can see
in todays web cam shots. All the stands were put together with nails and sticks. Spain was a poor country. The people did not have very much money,
therefore what the people purchased was a simple gift. A dollar or two spent and the kids were thrilled. Now it's almost fourty years later and I still remember my girl Ana and I walking from stand to stand on a cold winter night. :m:

Since this is my first holiday season in Madrid, I had to go down to Plaza Mayor/Puerta del Sol and see what all the fuss was about. It was quite an experience, since I went down on Saturday evening during the Dia de la constitucion puente weekend. Every street feeding into Sol was jam-packed with pedestrians, spilling from the sidewalks into the street, frustrating any driver silly or brave enough to drive into the center of town. Plaza Mayor was just as jam-packed, though there still seemed to be room for a couple of buskers to set up informal stages. Santa hats and reindeer antlers were common, but the big seller seemed to be pelucas (wigs), worn by buyers of both sexes and all ages. I liked the Pippi Longstocking wigs best with the pigtails sticking out. Even though it must have been a pickpocketer's dream, most people seemed to be in good spirits and managed to not get crushed in the crowds.

Soon, soon...moonsoon! Just provide for some grass and water to feed the Three Kings camels and hopefully the gift we all crave for will become reality very, very soon. Cheer up and Merry Christmas! :m:

I miss Madrid. Frowner This time last year, my plane landed in Madrid, to begin one of the most spectacular holidays in my life. What a welcoming city!

Hopefully, this time next year I'll be there at the Plaza Mayor saying hello from Jer's webcam! Smiler
