Well, for a good few years now, I quite like to stroll along Pintor Rosales, all the way from Templo debod, right down to the end of the street, don't ask me why, I just seem to like the overall character of the street, especially during the summer months.
Also, I quite like the walk along the Calle de Alcala, basically right from the Sol, past the Banco de España, Plaza de Cibeles, and on up to La Plaza de La Independencia and La Puerta de Alcala, and all the way through to Las Ventas, if you're leg & feet can take it that is, as this is an extremely historical route indeed, if you know anything of the history of Madrid, you will know exactly what I mean.
And then of course there is the the infamous Gran Via, walked from Plaza Cibeles all the way to Plaza de España, then along into Princessa and on to Moncloa, I mean the history of that stretch of road between Edificio Telefonica and Plaza Callao down to Plza España alone, is a minefield of gems of an intensly historical nature, some of the buildings alone are of immense historical importance in the cultural development of Madrid, take for example the Capitol Cines, and that distinctive looking building right on the corner/Junction of Gran via and Plza Callao (I cannot remember the name right now, but it is extremely significant in the history of Madrid) and I'm sure you'll know the one I mean, totally un-missable.
Of course there are other famous routes in other parts of Madrid, Castellana, Calle Atocha, Calle Toledo, lots of them, and all highly significant in the historical makeup of the city, over the course of decades, and in some cases into the centuries now, but the three that I have mentioned, are (as far as central Madrid is concerned) are pretty high up on my list of favourites, and I just love & adore looking at the oldest of the old fotos of the old Madrid of yesteryear, it must have been a truly fabulous place to live in, before the outside world crept in with all it's toxicity, noise, vehicle engine heat, overcrowding, unemployment, and other various problems. Well, I don't want to get political here, but I guess you know what I mean.
So, there you go, my two cents worth. (or should that be 3 cents?)
Saludos y Salud.
