I moved to Madrid with 2 brothers , 2 step brothers and a step sister and our parents in 1970 and remained there until 1975. Looking at the panoramic views of Centro Colon and the Retiro literally brings a tear to my eye. My brothers and a few other American friends wondered the Retiro many many days. Seeing the entrance to the museo de Cera reminds me of when we were about 10...we used to sit on the ledge above that entrance and shoot rice spitballs from the tubes of our ballpoint pens...at the passing patrons below. When I see the cam of the Plaza mayor,I remember buying knives and other boys type things there at those shops right in the plaza.
I lived within a stones throw of the Embajada Britanicca (the funky round building about two blocks from colon) and frequently sat outside that embassy with the Policia Armada and the Sereno for our area, visiting until 2 or 3 a.m.

Many years later I moved over to Plaza de la republica dominicana and lived right above a litte bar where I ate Bocadillos de Morcilla de cebolla or jamon Serrano. I remember Padre valle from the catholic church right down the street.

I am haunted by dreams of madrid almost nightly. I feel as if I lived a different life that keeps calling me back...even though I have a family and wonderful life now.
Thank you so much for this site. I will check in regularly.

God BLess
