If you logged onto my website tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 18th, 2001) you will have noticed that the Xmas lights in the Plaza Mayor (and in the entire city of Madrid as well as many other Spanish cities) were only on for a brief amount of time.
Well... that is because yesterday, due to the cold spell, the electricity network in Spain went on overload at around 7pm. We can chalk it up to too many heaters I guess. The end result was a balckout in many areas of Madrid and Levante (Valencia) and while it did not affect the center of Madrid, it seems we are on a low consumption schedule for a bit.
Just thought I would explain the lack of Xmas lights inthe city tonight
