if you are refering to the member titles, i can but will not.

i (and most members) prefer the custom member titles since each member can use a custom title and it is more interesting and fun that way. members can also change their custom title whenever they want.

see your profile for the custom title field.

some use a few words, some use more, it is up to you.

for example, my custom title is set to "the man" big grin

no worries madsue, i never gave any instructions. i simply told people to use the help files (under "tools"--> "help") and to play around with the board a lot.

the best way to learn is to just try out new things and new functions of the board.

this new software is the future, only a matter of time before all online foums follow but we are pioneers cool

I'm okay with it all, except one thing, before the forum went down, I had around 405 or so post's, and when it came back on line again I had only 365, and I've been wondering about what has happened to the 40 odd post's, and don't know for sure exactly which ones are missing.

Also, I have noticed that all previous post's have got ????? "question marks" all over the place, throughout the text, which is of concern to me, because it is making nonsense of many of the words in the text. Why has that happened? was it something to do with the transfering of all of those Threads & Post's from one storage medium to another, e.g one Host to the other? and is there going to be a way to correct this problem, as it really is spoiling some pretty good and important threads/Post's, as they are now littered with these ???????????, can we edit our older post's in order to fix the problem? or are they going to be ruined forever?

Also, I find that there is far too much Bright light/white (background) with which I have a lot of dificulty, my eyes are such that I simply cannot withstand so much brilliant white, glaring at me from the screen, and have to turn down the brightness so far, that I can barely read the text sometimes. Is it possible to either put in some Sky blue around the post's and in the back ground? or something like that, I mean anything would be better than just plain blazing white areas, some kind of color or design, pattern, wallpaper, you know the kind of thing I mean, anything, just not brilliant white, it hurts the eyes too much, especially after about an hour flicking through the forum, my eyes start to get very tired very quickly when there is a lot of white on or around the page, perhaps some other members feel the same about some of the points that I raised, and if they do, I hope they will post on here and say so.

p.s. These are observations, Not criticism's, I like the board and the way everything works, but those of us who post useful info often, instead of just lurking, would like to be able to edit out some of the problems, and clean things up, and like it says on the side there, every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around, so how about it!!

Saludos

Santi

frowner Ooer Santi, my board is in yellow, bright for one post, then pale for the next. I only have a bit of white around the edges and a deeper yellow at the bottom of a thread. Thought that was what everyone was seeing big grin!! Can´t comment on the number of posts cos I don´t usually look at that, but I haven´t seen any question marks within posts that shouldn´t be there. What I have seen in old posts is little square boxes where punctuation and/or accents would have been, but thats all

Sue, the number of your posts is listed at the bottom of your posting. You are currently at 1400 posts.

Okay, well I've checked it out in both Internet Explorer 6 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 (which is the bowser that I use all the time now as it is much faster and safer than IE6, and the effect is just the same, even tried changing to various resolutions, but it's the same, a whole ot of brilliant white light all around the threads & post's, and in the background of many other things, like the Post-Reply window for example, it's about 75% white background.

Almost all my older post's have got ????? scattered throughout them, and one or two other odd bits & pieces, and on some the Text Pagination/Wrapping has changed a little, and could use a little adjustment to tidy it up.

It looks to me like a large transfer of data has taken place, and the transfer wasn't 100% successful, I have seen this before, and experienced it for myself in the past when I transfered a lot of data in one hit, the data "fragmentation" I got was horrific, with whole sentences turned into zeros & wing-dings, and some files not accessable at all, they were so badly corrupted, and I think that is what has happened here, the forum has suffered from some data fragmentation.

I hope it's not permanent.

Saludos.

Santi.

big grin PaulandIrene, Yes, I see my posts. What I meant was, I would have no idea whether that was right or wrong, as I don´t keep a count!

One observation I have is that when I add words in bold, or in italics the cursor goes back to the beginning of my reply?

now THAT is what i call feedback cool

ok, i will try to cover everything you all mentioned above.

1) loss of data: Santi is right, the import to the new board was about 95% (that is what the server guys said it would be before i did it) so yes, some info was indeed lost but that could not be avoided. take one for the team Santi and sacrifice those 4 posts for the sake of this new and awesome board software big grin

no need to count every post, just enjoy the board and concentrate more on the quality of posts and less on the quantity.

2) the funky diamond shapes with the question marks in them that replaced some characters are due to the fact that the importing of the HUGE amt. of info did not handle spanish characters very gracefully.

the vast majority of this happened on the practica and platica forum (the one in spanish) at http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/eve/forums/a/frm/f/4271030511 .

VERY FEW of the other forums and threads were affected to any serious degree by this.

for example, the thread by payno at http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4271030511/m/9211044511 illustrates to perfection the problem with the spanish characters not importing well.

the only way yo correct this is to manually go to each of the threads and posts that have been affected and edit them, putting back the spanish characters, a task that i for one am NOT willing to do.

Santi, if you want your affected posts to be fixed, you can go back and edit them since you all have priveledges to edit your own posts.

NOTHING has been affected to the degree that it is not legible so i do not see this as a big deal.

i have personally corrected the forum titles and descriptions that were affected but this import problem.

3) colors: NOTHING HAS CHANGED! the colors are the exact same as on the old board but they may seem a bit diff. since they are used more. madsue and paul and irene are right, the colors are indeed the multimadrid colors but with a pastel touch. the threads have alternating colors for every post as they did on the old board. the yellow is a pastel yellow and it alternates with the beige. the orange is a pumkiny color as paulandirene put it and i like to call it between orange and peach.

the background is not bright white, it is just plain old white and it will not be changed.

no, i will not put sky blue in the background, i am not bill gates you know and i like to think i have better taste nutz

yes, i will see if i can make the text input are in the reply window bigger so there is less white background.

if i change the background color, it will change on the forum pages and the reply window as it is an accross the board change. i can't think of a decent alternative to white but am open to suggestions.

4) i have tested across browsers and platforms and i am seeing what madsue and paul and irene see.

here is a screengrab of the rely window...

and here is the quick reply window...

Santi, if you do not like the white background on the reply window, use the quick reply function instead, it has no background at all, it is just a pastel yellow window.

5) madsue, i hear ya on that inserting bold, italicized, etc... text but it is not the cursor that is brought back to the beginning of the post, it is simply that the post window scrolls to the top. try it again and you will see that the actual cursor stays where it is (after the tect you inouted). i do not know why it scrolls the page up to the top but i will ask the developers just in case.

hope i covered all points, if not, please let me know brews

saludos,
jer...
