Jer, what's hapening on the Plaza Mayor? Do those trucks and cranes mean that the plaza is closing up operations for the winter months? Frowner

How cold does it get there? My friend, who lives right outside the city, says that it gets "FREEZING"! there. But he is from Southern California, so what does he know. Smiler

Man, almost fell off my chair when I read that one Big Grin

Actulally Mermaid, the Plaza is always pretty hopping and although the "terrazas" will come down this week or next, the holiday season in Madrid is great. The atmosphere is full of life and it is one of my favorite times of year.

The TRUCKS IN THE PLAZA are rigging the Plaza with the net of cables that are used to wire the Plaza with the massive X-mas lighting to get it ready for the holidays Big Grin

If you look closely at THIS PHOTO you will see the cables high in the air.

I know you are a pretty new member Mermaid but if you do a search on "xmas in madrid" or similiar phrases at MY SEARCH PAGE [search] you will get quite a few older threads from last year and all your questions shall be answered.

See specifically the following 2 threads:

1) Jan 5th "Cabalgata de Reyes" (King's Parade)

2) Christmas in the Plaza Mayor!

for the goods!!! Big Grin

Keep your eyes on the PlazaCam and on my Puerta del Sol Cam as well this holiday season for Madrid in the jolly jolly spirit.

Hah! I laugh at your friend and his sensitive, Southern Cal skin Red Face

I am from NY and trust me, it does not get that cold here. It rarely snows in the city and in most of Madrid the cold is a mild one, not a wet cold either. It is usually above 30 F but in all fairness, it can go below freezing.

Hope you can get over here, Madrid is great at the holiday time Smiler

Saludos,
jer...

Thanks Jer, for the links and the clarification. :b:
I don't feel TOO stupid or anything. My friend just made it sound so brutal there in the winter.
The photos you posted make it look like it is very mild, like it is here in the autumn. I do hope to get there this winter sometime and find out firsthand! Big Grin
