When you receive a death threat from a member of the board, it means that things have gone a little too far.
The internet is full of insane people. But with most messageboards you never actually meet the people in question, so you're safe. It is different with this board, you DO meet them.
Some of you may think I am being a bit "creido" in announcing my departure like this, but, well, I wanted everyone to know why I am leaving. It is not that I am bored with the board, there is a lot more to it than that.
If anyone thinks I am overreacting, PM me and I'll send you the threat I received.
I'll probably still come along to mm meetings, and I will still post about the debating group, and if I really NEED something, but I'm going to stop with any witticisms or anything like that. I don't feel comfortable with joking around anymore.
So, well, bye then.
Cervantes
P.S. Please jer, don't delete or edit this. I would really like everyone to know why I am leaving.

Maybe if you just pretend that the specific person who is threatening you does not exist like he asked you to, then you would not have to prentend to be signing off of this board outside of shameless plugs for you debating group or when you REALLY NEED something.

yes, i would just ignore that person as Madrid Inside has said.
Rocco, he is not plugging his debating groups so relax.

i consider myself (and others consider me) a very witty person as well but you have to know where to draw the line, i think that is where you went wrong and things just snowballed from there.
i would propose that you tone it down a bit and ease up on the "witicisms" since extreme witicisms can be taken as insults by other memeber and provoke confrontations at times.
however, i respect your decision to leave and if you do, your addtions to the board will be missed.
That should be to ignore him in the sense of not speaking of / about him and not goofing on his threads thus pretending that he does not exist. Not ignore the things that he has said to you or the things that he warned you about.
Live and let live is what I say.

Oh dear. I go offline for a while and then come back to see this post. Obviously I have no idea what has caused it but wonder why it is necessary to go to such lengths. My questions are why not post what you received on the board, and is the member who sent whatever, still a member of the board?

madsue, the threat was a private message and i'm pretty sure it was meant to be private or the person would have posted it on the board instead of sending it privately.
also, i am not defending nor condoning threats of any kind but it was something that Cervantes posted in the first place that caused the other member (yes, still a member and a long-time one at that) to send said threat.
Cervantes did not mean to offend the other member but he did and it all got out of hand after that.
best to leave it all behind us and move on.
it is Cervante's and ONLY Cervante's choice to continue on the board or not.
i really do not want this to be a major topic of conversation here.
