Hey everyone, jer here.
After many months of trying and trying, I finally was able to stream my main Plaza Mayor Webcam.
Basically a streaming cam means that it is a much faster refresh rate of the Plaza image than there is on my homepage since when you are connected your PC takes the image directly from my webcam and not from the server, kina like cutting out the middle man to speed things up.
Depending entirely on the speed of your internet connection, in this new streaming version the Plaza Mayor will looke like a slow video and you will even be able to appreciate the movement of the people and activity in the Plaza
The streaming version only works with Microsoft Internet Explorer browser that is Java enabled (if you can see the webcam on my himepage then your browser has Java and you will be able to see the streaming version as well).
The good news is that those ultimate Madrid nuts will be able to see the Plaza Mayor almost live:
1) 56K dialup connection: 7-9 second refresh.
2) Broadband connection: 1-4 second refresh.
Obviusly, the faster the connection the better the refresh rate will be. I have tested it from connections here around Madrid and with an ADSL line I get a consistent 3-4 second refresh
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
The best I have seen yet was with a cable modem connection which gave me a refresh rate of 2 seconds.
The bad news is that a guy can only offer so much for free so while you can try out the streaming cam for free, in order to have full access to it, a yearly donation will be required to the "help keep multimadrid a killer website" fund
You can learn more and get a temporary password to see if the stream is good with your internet connection at
www.multimadrid.com/streaming
The way I look at it, some people sell their videos of Madrid, some sell books, others souvenirs, I guess I am selling Plaza Mayor TV.
Thank you for your support,
jer...
p.d. As for the multimadrid you all know and love, everything will continue to be free and merry for everyone
I just added a seperate streaming version of the PlazaCam for those ultimate Madrid addicts that's all.
