Thanks for the update Madrilea, I love when members are on their toes and let me know where I go wrong. This city is just too big and active for little old me to keep up with on my own without help from my visitors.

I am sure I have missed at least a few "holidays" on my MADRID CALENDAR however, in this case, the calendar is a yearly thing and as I understand it, the only reason that this January 7th is a "fiesta" is that "El Da de los Reyes Magos" (the Epiphany or Kings Day) which is on Jan. 6th falls on a Sunday and when this happens the holiday si celebrated on the following Monday instead.

So, thanks for the info but since it is only this once and that does not happen every year I will have to leave the calendar as is but it is good to have this post here to let people know about this exception to the "holiday rules" Big Grin

Basically, the calendar is there to anounce events and holidays and in general "Jan. 7th" is not one of them.

Now that I have your attention though Madrilea (and anyone else out there), maybe you can take an ecven closer look at the MADRID CALENDAR and let me know of the holidays or major events I may have missed Smiler

Between all of us, I am sure we can get a perfect Madrid Calendar going .

Saludos,
jer...

I love I love I love my little calendar boy....
big grin

From http://www.gomadrid.com/practic/public-holidays.html

I found the following list:
January 1 - New Year's Day (national holiday)
January 6 - Epiphany (national)
March 20 - San José (moved from Sunday March 19th)
Easter Thursday (Madrid and others) and Easter Friday (national)
[Note: for year 2006, these Easter holidays are the 13th and 14th of April]
May 1 - Labour Day (national)
May 2 - Fiesta de la Communidad (Madrid community only)
May 15 - San Isidro (Madrid capital only)
August 15 - Feast of the Assumption (national - in Madrid called Virgin de la Paloma)
October 12 - Spain's National Day (national - called Día de la Hispanidad)
November 1 - All Saints Day (national)
November 9 - Almudena (Madrid capital only)
December 6 - Constitution Day (national)
December 8 - Feast of the Immaculate Conception (national)
December 25 - Christmas Day (national)

Can anyone confirm, deny or add to this list? I am trying to plan ahead for any travel opportunities in the coming months and need to know what days I WON'T have class.

Thanks!

hey jar, a "palabra" to the wise wink, best to check with your employers as to days you will not have class rather than counting on any calendar or list of holidays.

after all, it is your boss/es that will have the final word as to work or not to work.

you can only be 100% sure that you will not work on the BIG holidays (jan. 1, jan. 6, dec. 25, etc...).

spaniards in "normal jobs" can usually follow the complete holiday calendar but remember, if you are teaching english (especially for the non-eu/no contract peeps), you will have no "convenio" (labor agreement) and are basically at the whim of the employer.

i have heard stories of employers in the teaching field having work on a "minor" holiday mad

CHECK WITH YOUR EMPLOYER!!!

saludos,
jer...
