ok, I did everything you suggested (changed the visual settings, logged out and shut down twice and then redownloaded and reinstalled Firefox) but nothing has changed. I am reluctant to first remove Firefox, because will I not also lose all my saved passwords and bookmarked sites-or is there a way to save these files). This could be a virus. I have to say that since I got here, something bad is going on with the computer-there is not a program I have that does not have some sort of issue now. I had virus software running, until it to had an issue and so I got rid of it about a week ago-it was the Trend Micro one, but never found any viruses, but then it ceased to run properly as well. Any suggestions on seeing if I have something nasty (something more effective than the Trend Micro software?)

Well, okay, me thinks you've got a BUG, I turned off my Nortons for a while, a year ago, and got nearly wiped out all together last January, (a very big mistake for me to have made) but since then I got rid of it, and purchased AVG 7.1 Pro, a stand alone Antivirus scanner, which for me is a phenominal antivirus prog, and I would not change it for all the tea in China, Nortons was crap in comparison to AVG, and I think you should seriously consider buying it on-line, with a 2 year license, like mine, but I still think you might need to un-install firefox first, then reinstall it in anycase, you can always go into your bookmarks folder, and Export the contents of it to another folder somewhere else temporarily, in order to preserve your various links. Check out AVG 7.1 Professional here... http://www.grisoft.comGrisoft Freeweb: AVG Free Edition ... http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.phpI also seriously suggest that you go here....... http://www.sysinternals.com/ and download & install the RootkitRevealer, version 1.6 as I did a month or so ago, it surprised me, after I ran it and found that I had been ***deeply*** bugged by whoever/whatever at sometime, and it rooted them out. Go to the site & read all about Root Kits, look under where it says December 7, and you'll find the link to download it there. More later, too tired now, keep us posted. Angelo.

ok, that did it. I switched to the default theme and then downloaded a newer version of Noia and my scrolling bars have reappeared-whew! It still may be that I have bugs-but nothing is finding them-the Trend Micro was worthless-I have now intalled AntiVir after some research online-but it is not finding anything either. I did try your Rootkit Revealer and it found some discrepancies, but then it wasn't clear what to do with them.... So, problem solved, but I still may need some major disinfection!

schwendy, I use Norton Internet Security 2005. I pay for the license every year and it has never failed me. I have it on all the time and also use the E-mail scanning and Anti-SPAM tools, it is really great. The E-mail scanner snags tons of worms and viruses as they come in. You are not running any antivirus? You realize that tons of worms and other crap are flying right into your system don't you? Especially when you use Outlook or Outlook Express (not sure if you do). MIE is also a breeding ground for worms with all it's ActiveX garbage, like a playground for infectious attacks. So, if you are not using an antivirus with an E-mail scanner and are using MIE, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc., then YES, I am pretty sure you have multiple worms/viruses. Have I scared you enough By the way jer, I am running Firefox 1.5 and this site looks awesome with it. As you said, it also looks good in MIE (I have 6.0) but I prefer Firefox.

Update for users of FIREFOX version 1.8.0.+ or whatever version you are using. It is highly recommended that you upgrade right now to the new improved version 2.0.0.2. It is pretty good, not much faster, but perhaps more secure, and has probably not been hacked too much, yet that is!! Graphically it is only very slightly different, user friednly, easy to get to know, and to configure manually, if you're into all that. Here is the Link to the download page..... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/Once you have it up & running, which took me all of 5 mins, you might also consider downloading a little extra program which they provide free, called "FASTERFOX" which does some tweaking-up of the browser, to help it run as efficiently as it was designed to, but because of the problems of slow lines and heavily loaded websites, with millions of people all pulling on them at the same time of day, it means that no matter how good the browser is, it still can use a little help, and this little "Turbo" called FasterFox does just that, and, is configurable, meaning you can tweak it all the way up, as I have done, and you can do just as easily too,and then watch how fast those pages load onto your screen, it's impressive to say the least. Here is the Link for Fasterfox version 2.... Fasterfox - Performance and network tweaks for Firefox http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/The I.P address for the fasterfox download is 202.83.244.151:80 called archive.hk you will/might need to allow access to this IP in your firewall, in order to let it through, as I had to, as it was blocked at first. Also, you should all have installed Internet Explorer 7 by now, don't use I.E.6 anymore, it's not secure, and slow as a slug. Of course, I.E.7 is still no where near as fast as Firefox 2, and is only used on those websites that really demand it, such as MSN's Game zone, like when I play 8 or 9 ball, it will not let me use any other browser than I.E. 5/6 or 7, that's the way Microsoft have fixed it, and any other website which requires you to log in using your dot net passport. That you'll have to go & read up on, if you're not familiar with all that stuff, but you should have a dot net passport by now if you haven't got one, it diffinitely has it's uses. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy using the new Firefox version 2, and if you have any difficulties with setting it up, just ask on this thread, and one of us will help out. Oh, and for MAC users, their IS a download of version 2 for you too. and other languages too, (in there somewhere). here I think... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.htmlCiao 4 now. ANGELO.

Thanks Jer, I'm glad to hear that you're lovin it, it's a great browser indeed, really fast, and speed is what we need these days.
As for the Thunderbird mail client, I use it exclusively, have done for over a year now, especially since I found out about Ctfmon.exe. That little bugger kept on activating every time I used Outlook express, and was trying to send data to the Internet, if it was not for my firewall blocking it's attempts to send, lord knows what it might have sent out there.
Ctfmon is part of Microsoft Office, and monitors user activity/input, like key strokes on the keyboard and mouse clicks & stuff like that, then ofice is supposed do something with it, but I'm not so sure it really needs to, but the problem with it is that it is used to send your activity data to the www, which is very naughty indeed, so I stopped using outlook (which is part of Office by the way) and only use the T-bird now.
T-bird can also be tweaked up a little, I did mine as it was a little slow, but it with a little tweaking in the config, it runs pretty good now, and is definitely much more secure than outlook, I'd recommend it to anybody.
Cheers,
Angelo.

Hey everybody, some news about another browser called SeaMonkey by Mozilla, the creators of the mighty FireFox. I know that I'm always singing the praises of the mighty FireFox & all, but I just had to come back in here and tell you all about this other Internet Browser that I have been testing over the last couple of weeks. My Brother over in Canada had been badgering me for ages to install it and try it out, but I was so in love with my Firefox, that I just couldn't be bothered, but eventually he convinced me to download it, so I did, and I must say that I am mighty impressed with it. It is another Mozilla product, just like the Firefox (with or without the Fasterfox Turbo add-on) and is a very nice piece of software indeed, and as you might expect of a Mozilla product, it is also lightning fast, perhaps even faster than the Firefox (without the Fasterfox Turbo add-on program) .......and, I like it, so for a while I'm going to use it to do most of (if not all of my surfing of the www) but will still need to use the Firefox as it has millions of my very best bookmarks in it, and other personal tweaks & configurations that I worked hard to get right for a long time, but between the two of them, the whole Internet experience has just got a whole lot more fun, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer is just such a pain most of the time, it hangs/freezes, takes it's time doing basically everything, and that's not the case with Firefox or SeaMonkey, so I urge those of you who are keen to improve your overall Internet experience, to go & download the "SeaMonkey" (strange name for an Internet browser, I know, but what can I tell ya, that's up to Mozilla I guess) install the program using complete install option, and let it fly. Your default browser will still be there, so no worries about any problems, you can keep the Firefox as your default browser if you like, it will ask you that, so you can choose which browser you like after a while and change it if you like. Here is the link to the download, it's so easy to do this, a kid could do it. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/I know you're gonna like this browser, and as always, it's totally free!! Hope you enjoy it. Angelo.

Here's just another quick update on the SeaMonkey Internet browser by Mozilla. As I've been using it for a fair while now, I can say that I am now using it full time as my main browser, but will of course still continue to use the FireFox now & then, as it still has it's uses, but seeing as the SeaMonkey is somewhat less problematical, and most definitely FASTER than even the might Firefox 2.0, I think that I will stick with it, I like it's functionality, it works very well, has (so far) had NO problems whatsoever with basically anything & everything, and I particularly like the advanced features, whereby you can enable the "Link Pre-fetching" & "Pipelining" features, as well as the "Keep Alive" and the "Quick Launch" features, which really does make a massive difference to the way that the browser works, I am accessing things in a fraction of the time that it was taking the Firefox to do, and with the help of a little tweak (which I have been using for ages) it makes web page content load onto the screen even faster, I mean like I've never seen anything quite like it before, even on a super high speed dedicated cable Internet setup's, I have not been all that impressed with the way that their browsers access websites, they just seem to be so slow to me, which just goes to prove, that it is not always the *Line Speed* that makes things happen faster on your PC monitor screen, it's more often the way that you have got the PC setup & configured. Anyway, if you are using the SeaMonkey, make sure that *PIPELINING* is set to enable, as with the *Link pre-fectching* and *Keep Alive* features, as well as the *Quick Launch* feature, then do this Tweak.......... First, type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. You'll see a bunch of settings. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a Web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. Next, alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" by right clicking on it and choosing "Toggle". Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. If the pipelining is already set to *True* don't worry, just leave it, as it has already been done by the program, when you enabled *pipelining*.....but do set the *maxrequest's* to '30', and then watch that browser fly, man, does it go!! You can find these features under Edit, then under preferences, then under the Advanced tab, and then under HTTP Networking, and for the Link pre fetching go to the Advanced/Cache Tab, and enable Link pre fetching there. Today I was spending some time having a good look at some of those Webcams in Valencia on www.landofvalencia.com and http://webcam.comunitatvalenciana.com/webcam.htm?AVT_SE...c38519f906d7d514f968and the difference that this browser made to how the image came over was staggering, much better than the last time I took a look at those beautiful places all along the Valencian coast, (Costa Blanca) and some of those sleepy towns further inland are nice & clear too. Anyway, I hope that you are using SeaMonkey, and will report back on how you feel about it's performance etc, or anything else about it that you ether like or dislike, do feedback as it helps others who perhaps are not too sure about it, and perhaps need a little encouragement/support etc. Saludos.
