Hi,

Okay....here's a weird but interesting one.

My maiden name is Gilgo and I stumbled across a web site today for Gilgo Purfumerias; www.gilgo.es/. I have been looking off and on for the origin of my surname and this is alittle too ironic seeing that my 2nd great grandfather was a Gilgo (same spelling..how cool) and we thought he might be from Spain or Italy.

Okay...my question is, has anyone heard of this company? I see on the sight that there are many stores in Madrid and Toledo that obviously sell the products. But what I am seeking is the actual company. I do not speak or read Spanish but wanting to very badly at the moment. Might someone have any insight?? I would greatly aprreciate any info that may be provided.

hey Cheryl, welcome to the board!!!

funny, when i think of the word "gilgo", i first think of "gilgo beach" out on long island (ny --> u.s.a.), not far from where i used to live (http://www.bungersurf.com/Bunger_Surfcam/) cool

i found http://www.last-names.net. put in "gilgo" and search. you can try it free for 14 days.

as for the stores here, yes, quite a big chain but not sure why it is called "gilgo".

oooooohh, maybe you are entitled to a piece of their profits big grin wink

poked around on google a bit looking for the origin of the stores name but no leads cry

Hi Jer,

We're not that lucky to inherit any profits. Funny thing is that my 2nd great grandfather's brother is the one that the beach is named after. Apparently he had no family and when he died they sent word to my family and they were to poor to get there....so the state got it...lucky them huh....could you imagine the $$$$$!!!
I appreciate your efforts. I'm not looking for any long lost relatives just the origin...I can deal with being part Spanish along with Irish, German, Scottish, English...we're all mutts anyway in the states.
