Hey all, I have come to the conclusion (took me long enough) that when most members of my board pop in, they only go to the "hot topics of the day" section to see the day's activity. This is bad because unless you log on every single day, a lot of cool threads go unnoticed and just never get posted on Frowner

I am trying to figure out or make sense of the habits of my members on the board.

The problem is that some days there are like 30 active topics (many new threads) and others there are only 2 or 3. If you do not logo on for a few days you probably have missed loads of new topics and threads that may be of interest to you.

The best way to avoid this is to pay closer attention to the light bulb icons at the left of each forum title. The forums that have been posted on since your last visit will show an orange light bulb ( ) and the ones that have not had any activity will show a blue one ( ).

Letting the light bulbs guide you is better than simply cehcking the "hot topics of the day" section since, as I said, you may have missed a day or missed the midnight cut off between days on the server so no hot topics may appear.

I would also like to know more about everone's posting habits Confused ? What you do when you log on? Where you look first? etc...

Saludos,
jer...

Hi Jer.

Here you are my habbits when I read and when I post messages:
Read: In the main forum page I look which titles has a message after the last time I was on the forum. Then I click the tile to see if there's just one new message or more than one and finally I read each new mesage.

Write: If I want to start a NEW topic I look first if there is already a new topic that day on the same title. If already there's one, I don't start my new topic. I do it because I think that maybe the visitors only check the LAST one and maybe, they won't see the last new topic just before mine.

Bye!

You're right Jer! I go straight to the hot topics. With my little (cute) brain, I need less choices.

You are saying go into the light? OK

Thanks all, your inputis invaluable to me, keep it coming Big Grin

The best thing to do to avoid missing threads (topics) is to make sure they are visible.

To do this:

1) Enter into your profile using the "my profile" text link at page top right.

2) Choose "view/update profile" near upper left and on the next screen in your profile options.

3) Select "show all" topics" from the "default topic view" dropdown menu box at page bottom (under "your preferences").

4) Simply click the "view/update profile" button under it.

Now you will see all topics on the forums when you enter them instead of onlythe ones from the past days, weeks or months, depending on what you had selected before.

Saludos,
jer...
