Hey all, If anyone is coming over to Madrid, I am in need of a waffle iron (waffle maker). Don't worry about voltage problems, I have a transformer. You know, one of those 4 slice jobbies like the one pictured below...

I am looking to spend between $20 and $40 (USD) on one so if you are in the mood to get me one and lug it over, I would be grateful and can pay you here in Madrid Big Grin

Just so I do not end up with 20 of them Eeker ,post here id you can bring me one and when it is confirmed others will read it and know.

Thanks,
jer...

p.d. some "Bisquick" (or other brand) pancake and waffle mix would be great too Big Grin !

Can you hold out until March 11 or so? Also does it have to be new? Those things tend to be lying around unused....actually I think I have a round shaped one I haven't used in at least 5 years!! You could deduct it from my user fees when you start your new web cam!! Let me know any specifics about age, size, type, etc. of iron you want (I am bringing a fairly empty suitcase, so I can load up there!)...also how much Bisquick do you need?

Toni,

Fill a U-Haul trailer that can be hitched on the back of the plane with various items like waffle irons, Bisquick, kool aid, clothes dryers, a few frozen Philly cheese steak sandwiches, and various and sundry items from the local Wal-Mart, and I think Jer will be as happy as a pig in slop - Big Grin

It's amazing how there are still things from home that a person wants. But trying to get it, or finding it a price that isn't a King's ransom is difficult.

Jer? How about a few Eskimo Pies? Anything else you need? Smiler Just thought I'd throw out a few possibles.

Hey ToniG, March would be great!!! Big Grin Smiler Big Grin

Hmmmmmmmmm... I saw the round ones but they ony make one at a time and ena (my girlfriend would kill me if I only got such a low capacity one). I really need a 4 square waffle maker model.

If you do not use your round one that would be great as well, I could have 2, one for square and one for round belgian waffles Big Grin

Can you bring them both?

Ok, the new square one should be like the one in the photo in my opening post above. ANy decent brand will do (Black & Decker, Toastmaster, etc...).

One big family sized bisquick should be a start (or a few smaller boxes), use your best judgement since I have not been back in a while to see what is available. Oh, and a big bottle of Aunt Jamima pancake syrup if you don't mind Red Face

JP, why did'nt I think of that U-HAUL thing first! Hey, the airlines do not specify that you can notdo that, tey simply say that you are only allowed 2 bags down below and a carry on Big Grin

Funny you should mention other things I miss, there is another thread at www.multimadrid.com/cgi-bin/jersbbucgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=19&t=000063 with a list, Jejejeje!

Oh, and don't forget the frozen New York pizza!

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. Hey, do you guys htink I will be the ony one in Madrid with a waffle iron?

Jer,

One of the things my wife and I enjoy doing is making a tour of the stores looking for specific items that we think may not be available in Spain. I suppose Spaniards do the same thing when they visit the States as well. It's interesting how differently cultures see food, etc.

I do have a solution for you on a lot of it. Since you're getting softball going through a link, your ties to people at a U.S. base are going to grow. Since there's a BX or PX on site, which services a lot of American GIs and their families, chances are a great deal of what you need could be bought through the players. As to the legality of it, I'm not too certain. I suppose if they gave you a "gift," and you gave them a "birthday present" of cash, it wouldn't be a problem - Wink

Another avenue might be through U.S. Embassy personnel. It's obvious they get their needs somewhere. Even if you got the "fixins" for bagels, and made them yourself, and had the right toppings, you'd have a delicacy. I too missed them, but love Spanish breads, so it wasn't too bad a transition for me. I agree on the packaged bagels. Ain't real, never will be.

As for your grape jelly/jam, look for Sevillan grape jelly/jam, via the Internet. You might find it available in stores that are online. We buy it here in the States from a Canadian company. It's superb - Smiler

Sorry! Didn't intend to make your mouth water - Big Grin Use a big napkin or your shirt's going to get soaked - Roll Eyes

Like the saying goes, "If there's a will, there's a way." Things usually work out when you start doing a little detective work.

JP (Who now intends going to the kitchen, grabbing a fresh bagel bought this AM, toasting it lightly, putting butter and Sevillan grape jam on it, and enjoying it with a cup of good coffee. You made me hungry - Big Grin )

Ok, make sure I have this straight....you prefer square waffles to round and Aunt Jemima syrup to Mrs Butterworth's? (Bear in mind Mrs Butterworths's bottle alone would be sure to impress many Spaniards!) I will see what size Bisquick fits into my suitcase.
I do think that Bisquick has a shelf life of about 2 million years, so I don't think I get a box too big!

Actaully ToniG, now that ya mention it, Mrs. Butterworth would be cooooool! I did not remember her, either will do but as you say, the Butterworth bottle is sweeeet (no pun intended Big Grin )

Bring both waffle irons if you can.

As for the Bisquick, a family sized box would be col but whatever space you have will dictate the size but the bigger the better.

You rule!!!

Anthony, what do you consider reasonable man?

Let's stop making fun of Aunt Jamima and Mr.s Butterworth shall we! I happen to like the fake maple products, not all of us have the $$$ to get the real deal all the time anyway Frowner

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. Besides, are You, Danny and I doing lunch on Tuesday or what?

Jer,

I agree with Anthony. Ain't nothing like the real thing! Maple syrup comes from trees, not Aunt Jemima's kitchen made out of miscellaneous syrups and artificial flavoring.

If you want a real waffle, you use real butter, make the batter using whole milk, and you put real maple syrup on top - Smiler

As a kid I helped make maple syrup, and until a few years ago, we had an old friend who was still making it each spring, and our house has never been without the real thing over the years. It just wouldn't sound proper.

JP (Who definitely shows serious signs of eating too well over the years, but wouldn't change it for anything - Wink )

Geez Jer--- are they going to be making fun of your choice of baking mix, too? Bisquick and Mrs Butterworth are the makings of my childhood waffle memories--no matter how good maple surple is, it ain't 'natural' at our house! Stick with the stuff that 'feels good'!!

Thanks ToniG, I agree, Mrs. Butterworth and Bisquick is the stuff that dreas are made of, I too grew up on them as did most American kids Big Grin

JP, the main reason for the lack of real Maple syrup in the Jer house is that, I will repeat, NOT everyone has the $$$ to get the real Maple syrup all the time, last I checked (unless you made it yourself) it was very expensive in the U.S.A. and here in Spain... froget about it!

Long live Mrs. Buttterworth and Auntie Jemima Smiler They shall be in our hearts and stomaches forever!

I dont mean to get all "Ashcrofty" or "Bushy" or anything like that but I think that making fun of "Auntie Jem, Mrs. Butterworth and Bisquick" is downright anti-American.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. maybe when I retire I can think about making the waffles from scratch but right now I wil stick to the Bisquick thang since it is a bit better when ya have to work and such and don't have 2 hours to prepare breakfast every morning Eeker

Well, Jer, I got one today at the big "President's Day" sales at the mall! I looks alot like the one you have pictured and cost a mere $29!! (Of course while I was there I bought another $150 of necessary items for the trip. It's a good thing I got such a deal on the airfare--eh?) We will be there March 11-18. If your other connections will be there sooner and you would rather have it then just let me know, as I have the receipt and it won't be a problem to take back.
