I logged on an hour ago to see the sunrise in the Plaza Mayor and the camera is frozen at 2:54 AM on 6/13/02 and it's dark! What's the haps, Jer?
It's 11:18 PM in California right now. Guess I'll just go to bed :z: and get up in a few hours to catch my own sunrise. It just won't be the same though, sigh... G'night, Mama Chula

Man, you guys don't skip a beat do ya It is on now (8:34am) and still in time for the sunrise, come back Mama Chula
It was not stuck, I had to turn off the PC that runs the cam for some routine maintenance.
Go figure, the first time in 6 months I turn it off and the webcam is off for 6 hours (2:54am to 8:30am) and I get yelled at for it
Sorry you missed your Madrid Sunrise, try again tomorrow
Saludos, jer...
p.d. This will be a regular event from here on in and I will probably shut the cam down for 6 hours once a week or so- Gotta let the PC rest once in a while
Thank you Jeremy! I'll log on later tonight to watch the sunrise before I go to sleep. Can't sleep without first watching the sunrise over the Plaza Mayor! Didn't mean to scold ya I was just concerned that something baaaaad had happened to my favorite web cam. Cheers, Mama Chula

Sunrise! I am watching the sky turn from magenta to pink in the streaming video. A little bunch of people are clustered around a lamppost--has it been raining or is the plaza always so shiny at night? Wait, there's a guy spraying with a hose, washing it down (lower right of frame) It really is the next best thing to being there. It does seem odd to see even a few people out on the street at 6 AM--and to know that they are on their way home, not starting an early day, most likely.
My friend Becki(reunited right here on multimadrid.com!!) and her husband, parents and one daughter are headed over fairly early in July. I wonder if I could persuade her to stand and wave on-camera at a pre-set time....
Guess it's past my bedtime for sure now.

Hey Sue, go for it! It's really fun to do. Back in March, my son and his girlfriend stood at the horse's behind at a prearranged time and waved to me as I watched from my computer at work. It was quite a kick. I was actually talking to him on his cell phone at the time and there was a delay time of about 30 seconds or so on the screen, nevertheless, it was fun and it made my day. You can't really see their faces but if they wear really bright colors you might be able to tell your friends from the rest of the folks. In all honesty, if my son had not told me where they were standing, exactly, I would not have been able to pick them out of the crowd.
Have fun! Saludos, Mama Chula P.S. Aren't the sunrises over the Plaza Mayor great? Almost like being there...

Hey Mama Chula and all interested. Sue was actually abel to see the sky colors changing in the sky since she has signed up for the ultimate in PlazaCam viewing on my site.
Whil you (Mama Chula) got a 30 second delay on the cam refresh, Sue was able to see a new image every 2-5 seconds (depsnding on her interent connection speed) since she is a proud member of the streaming cam club
It really makes a huge difference. The best refresh rate I have gotten with the streaming cam is a new image every 2 seconds on a T1 connection from the U.S.A.
I'd say about 2 seconds. I could see a guy lighting a cigarette by that lamp post(flash of light) He was wearing a white T-shirt. The streaming cam is a blast and worth every cent(heavens, $24.95 is what---less than 50 cents a WEEK?)
A group from my husband's school is in Spain RIGHT NOW, but I did not set up a "viewing" with the teacher(who has my old job) As of Tuesday, my husband is fully retired from teaching and,he said in my presence that he would not mind at all spending a couple of months in Spain in the future---from his lips to God's ear!
We had a dinner party yesterday with Becki(see previous post)and her husband, also Karen aka Elena and Paco Alvarez, whom I had not seen for 35+ years. I had forgotten what nice people they are! He is madrileo through and through, even after having lived in Western Michigan for most of their married life. It turns out they live blocks away from my mom!
The menu: pinchitos moruos, ensalada de bacalao, acelgas con piones, ensalada de alcachofas con arroz, sangra and torta de chocolate con salsa de cereza y helado(Moorish kebabs, salt cod salad, chard with pinenuts, garlic and raisins, artichoke salad with rice, sangra and chocolate cake with Chambord sauce and ice cream) Hardly any leftovers---plus my guests each brought a nice bottle of Spanish wine! Paco said the Condesa de Leganza was "much too good for sangra" He also made me promise to eat patatas bravas in a bar this fall while I am there. I'm counting on you, Jer!
OK, so this should go on a food thread.
