Torrejon de Ardoz is a suburb area due east about 20-25 km from downtown Madrid.

You’ll be able to read more on Torrejon at their official web site www.ayto-torrejon.es/nprincipal.htm

hey KyledeKane, welcome to the group.

torrejón is a suburb of madrid as you surely know.

are you planning to move there?

there is a member here on our spain community named "TJGuy" and i know he used to love there many moons ago, maybe he will pop in here and give some advice.

saludos,
jer...

ha - - finally something I can contribute to without making things up!! die laughing

Torrejon isn't quite a city but a very large town (atleast by my standards). Lot's of things to do in terms of bars, clubs, food and sufficient shopping that you don't need to leave TJ to get life's requirements. Not many people will speak english in TJ. As a percentage, probably fewer than Madrid.

Up until a few years ago, TJ wasn't much more than an industrial suburb of Madrid stuck between the city of Alcala de Henares (which is a really cool place) and Madrid; so TJ really doesn't have any attractive or "de moda" zones like Madrid and Alcala do; but it is growing up quite fast. It will always have that industrial feel to it (lots of middle class housing and industrial warehousing and fabrication zones) but it has the advantage of being within 30 minutes of Madrid without all the congestion problems associated with Madrid. My preffered area is Parque Cataluna - - this neighborhood has a community center with a large pool and its own clubhouse with daily activities in the non-Winter months - - something quite rare in Spain.

There was a time a large U.S. military base was active there but it is now closed. At that time, the drunk and overpaid yankees as well as loud F-16's were about the only problems in TJ. Lately, alot of immigrants from E. Europe and Latin America have relocated to the TJ area and crime has become more of a problem than it once was. But it isn't anything like crime in many U.S. cities. If you are there, you will hear a number of Torrejoneros pine for the days the Yankees were there and not the immigrants. The Yankess only fought amongst themselves while the new imports fight with everyone.

If you have some specific questions, I could probably be more helpful. Why are you asking about TJ?

Hey, thanks for all your help. No, I'm only 16 so I'm not planning on moving there or anthing. jaja....The reason I was asking about it was because I'll be coming to Madrid for a few days next year and my stepdads cousins live there and I was thinking about stopping in to see them. So, hopefully that website will answer all my quesions about, if not im sure TJGuy will be able to answer them....haha Thanks everyone!

Hey Kyle, if you give me their street address, I'll tell you a little bit about where they live. At any rate, TJ is a cool place to hang out...boat loads of things for a teenager to do, especially when compared to the U.S.

hi Kyle, i can field that one.

NO, the current madrid metro ( www.metromadrid.es ) does not go to torrejon.

they say that "metro este", metro east - a future (distant) leg of the metro here will reach torrejon but that is a ways off stil as far as inauguration goes (even worse, construction has not begun yet eeker)

for the time being, you will have to take interurban busses or the renfe "cercanias" local trains back and forth between torrejon and madrid but not to worry, they are many and run often.
