Another curious sculpture: The fountain placed in Atocha Square (Carlos V) just in front of the Renfe is a replica of another one placed in El Retiro.
The original is the one placed in El Retiro. Many years ago, this original fountain was in Atocha. Then it was built a "Scalestric" for the cars (as in Cuatro Caminos) and the fountain was moved to El Retiro. Few years ago the Scalestric was removed and, instead of moving again the fountain from El Retiro to Atocha, a replica was put up there.
I wonder whether La Cibeles is a copy of another sculpture lost in la Casa de Campo
Bye!.

You know I never noticed the duplication of the fountains, but what I did notice recently, is a fountain in Cuitadella Park, Barcelona. Apparently a young Gaudi helped in the design of this fountain, and as soon as I laid eyes on it, it immediately reminded me of a fountain in a park in Zaragoza it was almost identical. I think they must have all been designed around the same period and cetain features copied by their designers. So much for originality?
I love spain

Hey totx, I want to thank you for this thread, I had no idea! So, as the Madrid lover that I am, I just had to investigate that duplicated fountain and I must say it was very cool to see the same one both in front of Atocha Station and in the Retiro Park in front of the main pool .
One (the older Retiro original) looks much cleanar and newer than the copy at Atocha, probably due to the fact that it is in the park while the original is in the middle of a traffic circle (gets dirtier faster due to the air polution).
So, since my website is a very visual one, I took photos of both statues for those who visit this thread, just click the links below:
