Hey totx, yeah... one of my favorite statues in Madrid, the "ngel Cado" ("Fallen AAngel") at the retiro usually goes unnoticed by most visitors to Madrid, even those who make it to the park. Funny, that exact statue was in the final scene of the satanic comedy "El Da de la Bestia" ("The Day of the Beast") by Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia and I loved the movie. Saludos, jer...

Thanks Totx for pointing out such an exquiste Madrileo detail. I wonder what other amazing details you could share with us... Ive been to the retiro many times over the past 5 years and Ive never seen it Im making a trip to the Retiro just to check it out tommorrow morning! I wonder where the other 2 or 3 statues are in Europe?... And Thank you Jer! for some GREAT PHOTOS of the Angel Callido. I must agreee with you about "Dia de la Bestia". Another great film of Alex de la Iglesia is "La Communidad". It was entered at the Palm Springs Film Festival 2001. Not sure how it did though. Carmen Maura is GREAT! She got Best Actress for that movie at the San Sebastian Film Festival 2001 AND for the Goya Awards (Spanish equivilent to the Oscars) among others. Great scenes of Madrid at the end, too. Blah, blah, blah... Saludos, L.A., California

Hey LA, I too wonder where the other 2 or so statues are in Europe I did a search online and found very little on where they could be. Oh well, at least we have one here I can see how you never saw the satue at the Retiro, it is much further into the park than most people venture to go. Most visitors to the park just walk along the main lake ("estanque principal") with the tarrot card readers, fortune tellers, venders, etc... on your right and the lake on your left and when they get to the end of the lake, they either turn left, right or go back the way they came. Well that walkway along the lake is the "Paseo del Ecuador" and if you just keep going straight when the lake ends and walk past the FIRST STATUE, it is about a 5-10 minute walk to the next open square, appropriately called "La Glorieta del Angel Caido", and "EL ANGEL CAIDO" (THE FALLEN ANGEL) is right smack in front of you In case you have any doubts, here is a Map (not StreetWise but gets the job done). Saludos, jer...

Hey MAX, don't get too sad by the possibility of there being 2 other Falen Angel statues in Europe for I have been looking into it and can not find anything on another one. All sees to indicate that the Retiro has the only one Yeah, I heard there was and still is an "argument" between the Prado and the City Hall as to who owns the statue. Has anyone heard or read that aside from myself? Saludos, jer...
