Hola,

I'd like to start a thread about romantic places in Madrid, because my boyfriend is going to visit me this weekend.
I just know one really romantic place here. That's the bridge (acueducto) near the Cathedral/Palacio Rea at night, when you see all the lights of the suburbs. It's great.

But there must be some more hidden romantic places, fountains, bridges or whatever in Madrid.
So, I would be happy for any hints what places I could show to my boyfriend.

The road under the bridge is Segovia st. If you walk it up a few meters you will find on your right La Plaza de La Paja. This is the middle ages aristocratic sq of Madrid(quite romantic by itself) and includes one of the most romantic restaurants of the city.

Sabatini Gardens, and Campo del Moro, the Royal Palace Gardens, are very much romantic, I think. The only problem is that they get closed before it gets dark, but it can be a good "romatic" tour if you start in campo del moro, in the evening, and then go to Sabatini Gardens, and when sun starts setting, go up to the other side of the viaducto (not acueducto) where there's a nice mirador from which you can see the Mountains of Guadarrama contrasting with the passion red and orange western horizon as the lights of the city start sparkling like an ocean of starts. I can almost smell the love that will spring up out of that stroll :l: :l: The love story in Titanic will be a light shadow of affection compared to THE MOMENT you will experience Big Grin

Also the area of Las Cortes and Huertas/Plaza de Santa Ana with the Ateneo or Queen Victoria hotel on the background is very Romantic at night. The view of Neptuno fountain and los Jer�nimos church from Las Cortes is very inspiring too. Try that one. But remember, it has to be at night.

I seem to be the only one I know who had never heard of this restaurant, but just in case there are others, there is a romantic cafe just behind the Plaza España on c/ de Conde Duque 2 called El Jardin Secreto. I had the carrot cake and a cup of tea, the carrot cake wasn't the best, but was acceptable. My friends ordered the chocolate fondue which was good, could have had better things to dip in it though. The whole setting was very intimate and very romantic though (low lighting and lots of candles) and the prices were reasonable.

I went to el pepinillo de barquillo a few months ago and would definitely recommend it as a nice restaurant for couples (or small groups of 3 or 4). The service was surprisingly non-Spanish (i.e. attentive) and the food was quite good for the reasonable prices. I remember having the ensalada de tomate y bonito as well as the steak au poivre (sp?) <-- both excellent! Plus, just down the street is a good bar called el clandestino or something similar that is a good idea for a copa before or after dinner.

hola all!
i am reviving this thread because i need some romantic advice!!! looking for place to celebrate my one year anniversary with the most wonderful man i've ever known.

the requirements...romantic, near the center, 40 or less per person, spanish or creative/international food.

i have some suggestions and would like to known if anyone has been to any of these places?

-el pepinillo de barquillo in chueca
-la cueva de la gata in huertas
-el septimo on diego de Leon
-el cenador del prado in huertas

or can you recommend something else? atmospherse is the most important.

We went to el Pepinillo last year and really enjoyed it. It's been a long time, but as I recall it was modern Spanish food, nice ambience, and good service. Prices were reasonable too. I think I remember wishing they would turn down the lights just a little more, however.

I dunno, my hunch is that it was quite good, but perhaps not amazing enough for a one year anniversary (congrats C!). Other opinions?
