Supposedly it´s possible to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Palacio Buenavista at 1200 on the last Friday of every month (which is tomorrow).

The Palacio Buenavista is the army headquarters at Plaza de Cibeles.

Anyone else who is interested, you should bring an ID card. As I´m not completely sure about it, there´s a bit of a risk that nothing will happen.

Well, I went. The sentry I spoke to explained that yes, at 1200 on the last Friday of each month, this ceremony is open to the public, but for some reason. So the info above was correct.
Maybe next time.

Yes sorry, today there was no public admitted but normally there is, and the sentry didn´t know why today was different.

Yes, I went and it was on. Actually it takes
place beside the street-side building on C/Alcalá anyway, and you can see it just as well or maybe better, from the street. There were more spectators in C/Alcalá than inside.

We were only able to go about 20 metres into the grounds. No ID was requested. There were lots of sentries all around us. The whole thing lasted about 30 minutes.

There was a short speech over the PA about the history of the regiment taking over, supposedly the oldest in the western world, recorded as participating in the Battle of Sevilla (1248), and in which by tradition the Crown Prince serves. The name of the regiment escapes me, but it´s the one Felipe was in.

They wore several different 18th-century uniforms.

It´s also possible (apparently) to tour the building, but you have to write in advance, saying why, and how many you are. They will phone you. Stephen
