hey sue, not much wrong, just that directing the question at me only is not the way to post as there are a lot of members that contribute here.
anyway, i am off to barcelona next week for a few days on the way to uk and i had a look at the sister site for bcn (barcelona for 30€ a night).
i was unimpressed since only 2 of the 8 options that came up for my dates were 30 euros per nigh and per person, the other 6 were between 50€ and 100€ a night per room and per person.
from your madrid results, i see that NONE of the 8 options is actually 30€/person/night
sounds like false advertising to me
i passed on them in the end as i do not see anything special there compared to other booking sites.
i ended up booking a hotel via my hotel bookings at www.multimadrid.com/accommodations that way i will be supporting multimadrid as well since i get a commission on the booking which i use to help keep the site going.
not for nothing but you should really be doing the same
Yeah, well, they definitely should have put "and up" to be totally truthful. Am checking out your booking place! I only put in the ones that looked "good" to me, and you know my champagne tastes. Have fun in Barcelona(which, as you know, I like a lot!) Going to see your brother, I'm guessing, to find out what daddyhood is all about. When's the wedding, again?

For ANYBODY out there who wants to know, I just booked at the Hostal Marlasca for Sept. 2 and 3, thus supporting this fine website! Seems like a good location (anything near Sol makes the rest of the city by metro a snap). I am off to Guatemala for a week of mission work May 31---the only thing which would keep me from the fall trip would be falling off a mountain down there!

I looked on this website too, but then went back to the ads at the top of the page, then to jers madrid accommodation link too!!!!!
I was looking for a different hostal this time, but after looking at a few, decided that I have always been happy in the Hostal La Plata, so went to check availability. The Google link told me it is was 50 euros a night, and jer´s site had "no availablity for my dates". Did want to support this site, but I phoned Louis direct, and have the two days I want at the normal price of 33 euros per night. That is quite a big saving!!!
As an aside, I had been searching on old posts, and found one regarding Hostal Persal in 2001 I think, where they were quoting 60 odd per night! Today they are still quoting 60 for a single, including breakfast, so reckon they realised they had priced themselves out of the market!!!!
Enjoy your Guatamalan trip Sue!!

Well, lucky you! I am paying 45 per night. I am not that fond of the telephone, especially not in a language not my native one, so I doubt I would have done the calling part. So when are you going to be in Madrid?
I could have told Jer that the place I liked to stay in Barcelona was called Hosteria Grau, but I have not looked at its site to price it since 2001. That was when I had dreams of starting my own culinary touring company----went in March to set up a school, lodging, a chef, restaurants(ate---all alone!---at Abac, which is awesome!) Of course, the terrorist attacks in the US put a heck of a crimp in overseas tourism, so my dream was never realized, and now I am just too lazy! Will stick with the known quantity, Luis Irizar in San Sebastian.Luis Irizar Cooking School

hotel looks nice and one of my clients recommended it.
Sue, thanks for the booking, it is appreciated.
a clarification about my bookings engine at http://www.multimadrid.com/accommodations/ . it is not necessarily the cheapest around but it is competitive with other booking engines out there. mine is simply an affiliate deal i have with bookings.net and since it costs the same to book via multimadrid as it does to book via other bookings engines, why not use it and help support the site.
i have no control over the hotels that appear in the search results, that is done by the people at bookings.
madsue, appreciate your trying to book via mm and i understand there was no availability, that happens sometimes.
RE: hostal persal. anyone thinking of staying there this summer should THINK TWICE!!! there is MASSIVE construction going on right in front of the hotel. this SERIOUSLY affects both the hostal persal and any hotel or hostel in the "plaza del ángel" (including the "hotel tryp reina victoria" which is on the corner). i know the construction is not their fault but it still makes staying there a bit ugly and noisy.
Hey,three stars at that Astoria! I am saving my stars for the Camino experience, which I know makes it less than authentic. If anyone wants to have a peek at the accomodations offered by the Walkers' World company(Canada) on the Camino: El Meson del Cid in Burgos, San Zoila Monastery, a couple of paradores and a "pousada" and in Santiago, the Virxe de Cerca hotel. I am really spoiling myself, I know. Now, if I could get my husband to let me spoil HIM a bit, I would enjoy this trip even more! Alas, the only way I could drag him to Spain would be to rent an apartment for a week someplace on the Med or maybe, just maybe, on the Bay of Biscay.

hey Sue, yes, i usually save my stars as well but my client is pauing for this one so i figured the more stars the merrier
ok, i do have to keep it down to 100 euros/night so the 4 and 5 stars were not really an option.
great thing is that all i have to do is deliver a bunch of phones on tuesday afternoon and give a 30 min. chat to the students about cell phone use in spain. 30 minutes of firefight, 2 days vacation, i could get used to that
Guess you are "the man": the man with the self-created dream job(s), lovely fiancée, cool digs, etc, etc. Unrelated: I am going to try to find a better photo of myself to put on the member directory. How do I get that to you? You basically look like a bear and I look like the "before" makeover picture of an old lady!
