Hi mm-ers!

My partner and I will be coming to live in Spain at the beginning of September. We would like to find a temporary (furnished) apartment to stay in for the first few weeks while we look for a permanent place to live. The place must be pet-friendly as we have two cats. We've looked at all the recommended websites but we're wondering if there are apartment locator services in Madrid that could help us in finding the temporary apartment. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Keith & Gary

there's loads of short term lets available but finding something that will allow pets is much harder. Basicly just start calling and emailing. Be wary of anyone wanting an upfront non refundable deposit. We lost 300 euros that way. You will have to make a small deposit but that will be only once you've come to an agreement on the place

to clarify, if you do a google search apartments in madrid you find dozens of links. Regarding damage deposit be carefull of sites that demand an upfront deposit the moment you book. We had to switch the dates and then lost the deposit. Better is what we did, we booked the place and then sent down a deposit once the dates were confirmed.

I believe that there are links to apartments here as well

You should check with the Apart-Hotels and the list of landlords listed in the accommodation section of www.madridinsider.com

Hello,

Thank you for your responses so far. To clarify, we are looking for two things:

1. A temporary apartment for about 30-days located near the Metro Opera, Sol or La Latina

2. We need to hire an apartment(flat) locator agency to help us find an apartment.

Again...thanks for your help.

You might check out the Madrid section of loquo.com. A lot of places reduce their weekly price quite a bit when they rent by the month.

I'm looking to put some family up in an apartment the last part of September and may even go check some places out, I'll let you know what I find out.

Are you bringing your cats with you, or are they coming later? This surely will make a big difference?

madsue,

Sorry we forgot to mention but we are bringing our cats with us. They should arrive one or two days after us.

It has been very difficult searching for the equivalent of apartment locators in Spain. Although all of the sites mention them, I do not think we are searching the correct words.

Thanks,

Keith & Gary

idealista.com for apartment searches while the front page is in English for any private ads you need to speak Spanish.

I see ads all the time for home relocation services. Check out TBS (link on this site) or www.in-madrid.com or any other of the expat newsletters

Jer,

For the temporary hotel/apartment while we look for our apartment, we don't know how many days it will take. So if we plan to spend around 1000 Euros in a temporary place for a max of 30-days that would be the budget. For the apartment we are looking at a max of 1200 Euros per month for a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom flat.

We are still having problems finding a flat locator agency to help us. A google search for Apartment Locators Madrid does not cut it. We found temporary apartments that accept cats but so far they are around 120 Euros per person per day!

Hope this helps.

Gary & Keith

Jer,

I just checked out the site that you posted above and it's great. Very professional looking and seems to offer a good service.
