Hi Evert... I am with mariposita and Shawn. Tetuan is worth a look. It is ideal for someone who works north of Madrid since it is walking distance to Plaza de Castilla where you would be catching the bus to go to Alcobendas. Aside from that it is only 15 minutes in metro to Sol (who wants to go there now anyway with all that construction going on?!).

We have just moved out of our 1 br apartment in Valdeacederas (between metro Tetuan and Pza de Castilla). The apartment is very sunny and you have the rooftop as well. If you are interested let me know and we can pass your contact info along to the landlord. The rent would probably be about 500€ or so a month. (plus utilities)

Wow Chica, thats not bad for a 1 bedroom apartment. Is it furnished though? Something to keep in mind if your moving here from abroad, it's much easier to have basic furnishings, though some prefer to buy their own. Personally I prefer furnished and then buying those little touches that make it my own. An apartment that can seem cheap becomes quite expensive if your first destination in Madrid is to Ikea and the appliance stores to stock your house. Worth it though if you know for a fact your going to settle in Madrid, for those of us who have no idea what the future holds it's not so viable.

Thanks Chica. I might be interested, but I've to see the apartment first. I'll be in Madrid on the 6th of June.

at that price, and correct me if i'm wrong Chica, it is VERY unlikely that the apt. will be available in june.

since Chica has been out of it a few months already, i'm actually very surprised it is still available.

is it?

if so, is it because the owners are not renting it yet?

saludos,
jer...

i've been thinking of moving and have been using idealista . you can search by areas, prices, number of bedrooms, etc. many postings have photos. in general, it is a great way to get an idea about what is out there.

good luck,
candela

I second the recommendation for idealista. I really like how it works because you get so much detailed information about each place.

The apartment is still available because it hasn't been put up for rent yet. We have just finished moving out (it has been a slow and difficult process!). Since the landlord spends a great deal of time out of town, she hasn't been back to check out the place yet.

The apartment is semi furnished with double bed, dresser, closet in bedroom. Living room has bookshelf, sofa, table, 4 chairs. Kitchen has clothes washer, fridge, 2 burner stove and microwave (I think).

Let me clarify...you have access to the rooftop but it is part of the community of neighbors. The flat itself is on the top floor of a 3 storey walk-up and is one of only two flats on the top floor. The neighbors are all decent and nice and pretty much keep to themselves. At street level are two businesses, mine and a glazier. Street is really quiet yet readily accessible to public transport and shopping.

Good luck with the move!

one thing to bear in mind with idealista is that even thought the interface is in English most landlords will be Spanish and if you respond in English they won't get back to you.

We decided (this is response to a question on a previous thread which I can't find) as Chris and I will be both working in Tres Cantos it makes sense to live there. Yes I realise it's the burbs but getting into the city is very easy Renfe to Chamartin and busses to Plaza de Castilla run every 15 - 20 mins all day long including weekends and both are take about 30 mins. . We also weighed out living in the city and driving but everyone said the traffic is horrible, miss your traffic window and a 15 min drive turns into a 1 hour plus commute. Currently from la latina its an hour and 15 mins door to door.

Anyways we usually don't go out during the week (that's our age showing through) particularly as nothing really starts before 10 at night.

Weekends are a different story.
