Hello, I am expecting to arrive in Madrid on the 28th and would like to rent a room (non-smoking)in a centric area (near the metro) for one week. I did a search and found only one reference regarding one-week rentals (Rocco Salata). Do any of you know of any other contacts?
Thanks in advance, MsLuna

I am not sure why that "one reference regarding one-week rentals (Rocco Salata)" was not enough he can help you find that room so i would take advantage of his service.
nobody else i know will place you for only a week so take what you can get. Rocco's service is reliable and he is trustworthy.
if money is no matter, get a hotel or hostel room for the week but if you are on a budget and want your own room, see Madrid Insider and talk to Rocco.
Just to let everyone know. I am currently checking on availability of the rooms I have listed at Madrid Rooms so that I can offer MsLuna a room. Right now for what she wants I only have a double room at Paseo del Prado potentially for 140 euros a week or I can put her in contact with the people at 'Sal y Ven' or 'Accommadrid' at the more expensive price of 155 euros a week for a single room in a shared flat not necesarily in the center. Plus she will have to pay them an additional 50 euro service fee which I do not usually charge for stays shorter than one month. Basically I can guarantee her a single room at one of the flats listed for 15 euros a night (one week / 105 euro minimum) or a double room for 20 euros a night (one week / 140 euro minimum), but I can not guarantee her which one. I will be getting back to her soon.

Hi, As Rocco stated, housing arrangements with him are up in the air due to other contingencies that are unrelated to my own circumstances. Thanks for the advice and recommendation, though, Jer.

Dear Jeremy and Rocco, Thanks for the replying to my post, but I recently made arrangements with Candela, who is renting out a room in her apartment for the week. This message board is really cool!

I should have either a double room in a shared flat at San Agustin, 17 or Paseo del Prado, 46 available in August for 20 euros a night (one week / 140 euro minimum) see Madrid Rooms for more information on those. Also, if you will consider taking a place for atleast one or two months there is a furnished studio available in the center of Madrid (Sol). See Furnished Studio Available in Sol

I'll be in Spain from 13 October to 6 November and will be dividing my time between Madrid and Barcelona (flying in and out of Barajas, claro), looking for jobs/opportunities. I am interested in something in central Madrid for at least the first week and then if possible something for the last few days. Between those times, I'll need a place in Barcelona (if you know who to contact).
Thanks, Ryan

There is a magazine called Private Villas which I see now is online. It is a compendium of listings of for-rent properties usually not through agencies (a few are) but mostly owned privately for holiday use and rented otherwise. I think most of the owners are English. The last time I saw a copy, most of the listings were in Spain. Prices vary but my experience is that in Spain, France, and Italy renting such "self-catering" properties directly from the owner saves about 50% over the rent charged by international agencies. Flats and houses are meant as holiday properties so are fully furnished and equipped with dishes, etc. Most are rented by the week but a few go by the day. We have rented successfully through Private Villas on the Costa del Sol (and also in Italy). BTW I know this board is about Spain but if anybody is planning to stop by France for a week there is a similar service offering listings in France, now online, called Chez-Nous that we've rented from many times. If location and price suit, any of these places would do nicely for temporary housing. Range is wide and not all places are expensive---some are very reasonable, especially off-season.
