Hostera Grau in Barcelona, very clean, rather small room(single)nice staff, awesome website in several languages. Just far enough off the Ramblas to be quiet. A short hop from the Plaza de Catalunya metro. Casa Rovira, in Sant Feliu des Guixols: A sort of crumbling villa B&B owned by a Brit born in Spain and married to a Spanish woman. The prettiest toilet I ever saw! China with blue flowers--it seemed a shame to use it...
Then, of course, the HI hostel Aterpetxea in Bilbao was super--if you could overlook the Galician bagpipers practicing in the room next door!

Pack light, sleep cheap, eat well.
