hi evert....
you need to be more specific.

do you mean a youth hostel type place?
if that is the case, jer could recommend his friends at Los Amigos. I'd recommend Cats or Madhostel....BUT...these are all shared dorm places. They do offer private rooms but those run as much as hostAls. the A in hostAl means it is a cheap, usually family run hotel. HostEl with an E always means youth hostel with dorm rooms.

For good cheap hostAls you can't beat Hostal Lopez. i think a single with shared bath is 35 euros a night. also try Hostal Santa Isabel, which is an upscale hostal, which runs about 40 a night. another super cheapie but quirky cool right by plaza santa ana is Hostal Horizonte.

i haven't the websites handy or i'd give them to you, but a quick search should do you.

good luck,
candela

hey Candela.

Evert said he needs "a private room with a bed" so, while los amigos ( www.losamigoshostel.com ) has a few private rooms, his needs pretty much rule out a youth hostel where he would share with 3 to 11 others.

Evert, i second Candela on hostal fonda horizonte ( www.hostalhorizonte.com ). i know the owner/operator and it is nice at a good price (hand painted ceilings are diff. in each room).

i was there a few weeks ago and it was closed for a while but check to see if it is open again.

saludos,
jer...

Hostal Horizonte looks great--wish I'd known about it before... Does anyone know if it has a (working) elevator?

Thanks for the feedback guys! Madrid Insider: I think I'll opt for the room for a week. It seems like a great deal.
